Some donkey in a wagon just shed a load of rocks infront of me - has badly taken out the front wheel of the poor old Porsche. bd!

If anyone is driving by and sees a stranded black Porsche 944 can you pick me up and take me back to Skipton?!

Long shot I know, wife passing by in 2 hours anyway if not.

Aaaaargh, so annoyed, just got the car all sorted and now got to buy a new rim. tt badger.

It wasnt one of those grey, quarry type trucks was it? 'skiplift' maybe?

As one of those nearly ran me off the road yesterday near Pately Bridge...

It was a truck shifting masses of rock so could have been the same.

Am so annoyed at myself for not getting the reg plate or firm name but one minute I was doing 60, the next going sideways half off the road on slush/ice trying not to die. When I stopped he was long gone.

I've just passed the time by moving the rocks. So far 3 people have hooted at me to move off the road. Some people are complete s.

Thanks.

Wife now en route, half an hour to pass but I've got 4 Marlboros and half a pint of coolant to keep me warm wink

A farmer just stopped. Thought he was going to give me a ride. Turned out he wanted me to move the car. I should have kicked him right in the .

Nope, just a can of tyre weld. Not much use if the rim is bent and cracked and the tyre shredded though.

Note to self. Buy a full size spare wheel.

Are you sure it wasn't one of the Hanson Quarry trucks?

There's loads about in that area.

Hanson's have to be sheeted all the time these days afaik, so unlikely. If it's boulders falling out the back then it'll be a local muck-away tipper firm, or if it wasn't a tipper (as depicted above) then most likely a normal skip truck with the usual overloaded skip and no net on it.

They'll have a log of which lorry was where at any given time - if you deem it worthwhile, why not give them a call?

I have a problem with things like this.

On one hand I was just cruising along minding my business when it happened so someone should pay for it that's not me.

On the other hand some poor sod could get in grief over it if he did nothing wrong and it was just an accident.

I'll mull it.

Looks like I'll be in for £50 for a new wheel and whatever decent price I can get on two 205/55/15 tyres.

I was milling around Otley / Blubberhouses around that time yesterday as well!

If you get stuck in a pickle like that again drop me an email and I should be able to help you out, I work for a breakdown company and we've got a base in Skipton.

Ah ha, good to know, thanks!

I'm going to try and recover car tomorrow for the 5 miles home. I've managed to get an original Porsche space saver but it has a 31 year old Vredestein tyre on it! Pumped it to 30psi last night, is now still at 28psi so hope to drive it home on that!

Cheers bud but I'm going to have to replace both fronts (d'oh). Am thinking about buying 4 195 winter tyres and running the 944 through deepest winter too...

That's if I can find a wheel smile

Just had a thought, it wouldn't happen to be 4x100 stud pattern would it?

I have my corrado sebring spare you can borrow if it is?

Better than a blow out on an old tyre.

Thanks but no, that would go on a 924 but not the 944 - mine is the same 5 stud as the early 911 and 968.

Amazing how such a little thing can properly fk me in the ass wink

What type of wheel is it? If it's the S2 Design90's it might be worth trying the 964 forum on Rennlist. The first 964's had D90's on and lots of owners have them sitting around in the garage doing nothing. Not sure offhand if they'd be the same stud pattern or offsets for what you need but if they are what you need it might be worth a try.

Good luck with your search!
