Looking to take the missus away in January for a few nights. London is top choice at the moment. Most likely for 3 nights and a budget of circa £500. Anybody have any recommendations? We will be doing the usual touristy stuff.

£500 per night (e.g. total bill of £1500) or £160 per night (total £500ish).

Preferably circa £160 per night, cheaper is better but I don't mind paying more for somewhere that's worth paying for.

If you're looking for bargains then the particular dates that you're travelling will make a vast difference as to what's available.

Quick search on lastminute.com with the following parameters brings back the Grange St Pauls as the first "secret" hotel for £119 per night - I've stayed there myself and it was a superb as London hotels go...

Looking on lastminute.com just now. What on earth is the deal with these 'secret' hotels? Do you really have to phone them up just to find out which hotel it is?

Look at the Lancaster London, opposite Hyde Park and right next door to Lancaster tube station.

They are currently doing a deal of £130 a night inclduing breakfast.

Last minute secret hotels are usually great. If you go 5 star Picadilly we have had The Athenaum or The Park Lane hotel for less than your budget. You have to commit first then you find out where it is,that`s half the fun. Good luck

Theres a lot of Hiltons and Premier Inns on the Secret Hotel option so do your research in advance.

As previously mentioned the Grange St Pauls is fantastic for the price, very highly recommended.

Also recommend the Cumberland in Marble Arch right next to Hyde Park, they do stunning suites.

Lastminute are robbing, thieving lying bar-stuards. I book their secret hotel for December 22nd in a 5 star property in London, you get conformation of the hotel when you have paid up. Got the hotel details and wanted to see how much I had saved (LM claimed it was a 60% discount) so looked the the website, guess what, it was cheaper if I had booked direct and had breakfast thrown in for free. LM response to basically obtaining money by deception? - tough, can't help you. The sooner they go bust for fiddling the better in my eyes.

Try here, looks good and good value too - http://www.voyage-prive.co.uk/fiche-produit/detail...
