Just browsing, as you do, and this comes up:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-1992-PEUGEOT-205-RA...

I know the RHD cars weren't quite as special as the European ones, but surely this represents incredible value for money? It's a long way from me, would probably be on the phone already if not!

For the money that looks great fun. But are they really that cheap (given the car looks in good condition in the pictures)?

UK spec 205 Rallyes are pretty much a base model with stickers.

Nothing at all like the Euro spec 205 Rallye (which is special) or later cars such as the 106 S1 Rallye, and I really have no idea why they command the premium they do.

If you want a fun non-GTi 205, you'd be far better off with an XS than a Rallye.

Looks nice condition but the Rallye we got in the uk was pretty crap.

Ie it had none of the performance bits from the 100 bhp euro version of the 205 Rallye (homologation model).

Ours was just a budget trim version of the xs, still good fun to drive but nothing special.

I had a 92 Yellow version. Brillant fun in 1380cc form and basic spec meant nothing could go wrong.

Being 19 it used to get thrashed everywhere, never broke down once in 2years, and even when i smashed the front wing, we just brought 2nd hand wing from a scrappy, sprayed it yellow and good as new.

The guy we sold it too, removed all the stickers and added GTI mouldings. Never the same again.

Few years later got taken out in a modified 106 S1 Rallye and by god did that fly.

These didn't even have the engine from the XS, making do with 75bhp as opposed to 85 confused ... And the yellow looks better than the white in my view.

I'd prefer an SR myself.

Not bad for a £1500 play thing IMO

Looks ripe for a TU5 conversion out of a 106 GTi to me.

I used to have an XS which was stickered up to look like a Rallye (see my garage profile).
The XS had the 85hp engine from the Citroen AX GT, as opposed to 75hp in the UK Rallye. The XS also had a shorter ratio box, a twin choke carb (Rallye had inj) and benefitted from an alloy head and block whereas the Rallye was cast iron.

All these things added up to make the XS feel the more sprightly of the two.

Certainly is basic motoring - not much to go wrong really I wouldn't imagine!

I had a Peugeot 205 Trio as my first car with a monster 954cc engine - it was spectacularly slow and used to roll so much in the corners, you could virtually reach out and touch the road if you had the window open. But it took my abuse for 18 months or and never let me down - everything worked on it perfectly. Super little car!

Some say the Rallye/XS are a better drive than the GTI. I've only driven GTI's so i can't say. A lot of fun motoring for £1500.

Ahhhh, the S1 106 Rallye. A mate had one, and gave it death for years, and it never complained. Great car, seemed very quick at the time.
