Radio 2 DJ's Who Are DJ's

Is anyone else who listens to Radio 2 starting to fear it's going downhill a bit "host-wise?" I know a few ex-radio 1 DJ's have migrated, including some who were very influential in driving me away from Radio 1 to Radio 2. A lot are what I call celebrities or just well-known presenters rather than music-focused hosts. There's more celeb interviews than actual music on some shows (though I do still quite enjoy Steve Wright). A few weeks ago Graham Norton admitted to never having heard the classic "More More More" by Andrea True Connection - really! Thank goodness for the iPlayer for Smartphone App - I can't bear Chris Evans (see earlier statement about my Radio 1 exit), as his show is all just about him - it's like a personal audio blog - he even has his son doing all the jingles. I "listen again" to Alex Lester or Janice Long, who are genuinely entertaining and witty (Lester's regular contributors are a hoot), and then try and get to hear the fabulous Ken Bruce mid-morning. I do enjoy the Steve Wright show (even though it does contradict my logic) as I like to guess when the Madonna or Bee-Gees related track will be played. Never heard him do an entire show without those two artists featuring. George Michael and Lionel Richie are about once every two shows - must be in his contract.

Interestingly Evans was a proper DJ...
I like both him and Mayo because they have personalities unlike Ken Bruce and Steve Wright who are dull as st, and as for all that 'big show' crap.. wkers.

As for Mr Norton, well we really liked the Jonathan Ross when he was on there, a very good mix of music from that Andy bloke.

I was gutted when they gave Mark Lamarr the boot - a proper time-served DJ, as well as a respected expert in his chosen genres.

Can't listen to Steve Wright anymore. Was amusing in 1987. but he is still doing the same show.

I like Evans and Mayo, also quite like Richard Allinson. That's about it though.

Steve Wright show is great when he buggers off on holiday and someone fills in for him.

Couple of years ago I think it was Mark Radcliffe and various others - it was great - I even started a thread about it and even contact R2 asking them to get rid of Wright. They didn't listen.

Steve Wright was always a novelty radio act rather than a DJ when he was on radio 1.

That said, the odd time I've tuned into radio 2 I've turned off in minutes...

I never listen through choice but music wise R2 seem to be playing more cheesy old dross than ever.

Janice 'errr' Long drives me insane. As soon as I noticed how many times she says 'errr' in a sentence I had to switch off!

It's the same show he's presented for 20 years
Why is it the "big" show?
Why does everyone who contacts him "love the show"?
Why does he need a bunch of sychophantic helpers?
Why are most of his interviews conducted with his helper and pre-recorded?
"I see what you did there.." repeated ad nauseum
Horoscopes for fks sake....
The "funny" characters (Elvis etc) weren't amusing the first time we heard them years ago
Why does he always remind us to turn our lights on?
Why does he give the show contact details with those fking awful impressions of e.g. Brian Cox?
He makes me sooooo angry......

Wish Ken Bruce would give up flirting with Lynn Bowles (cringeworthy).
Love Jeremy Vine.
Hate Steve Wright.
Can take or leave Simon Mayo.
Never listen to anything before 6.30am or after 7pm weekdays & rarely listen at weekends.

As for the stand-ins, Lisa Tarbuck is entertaining & Richard Allinson is good. Can't stand listening to Zoe Ball wittering on about her family & Brighton all the time.

Tried listening to Absolute Radio recently, but couldn't bare the incessant adverts. I think podcasts are definitely the way ahead.

The last time I made an effort to tune into a specific show was Radcliffe and Maconie back in 2008, are they still going? Since then I very rarely ever tune in (the iPod dock in the car is a godsend) because I fking detest the majority of DJ's. Either be funny or STFU and just play the music, preferably without taking over it

...and now you've said all this i'm pretty sure I won't be enjoying the show as much tomorrow

Must admit, I don't mind him either, even Dale Winton was OK when he stood in. Chris Tarrant plays some good music too.

And they don't talk over the music or not tell you who the artist was or, or...I'll stop now.
