So, since it's nearly that horrible, depressing time of the year, when everyone is sat bored at home, freezing cold, toys already broken, with a poor, cut short tree in the corner, steadily losing it's needles and making a prickly mess on the floor, with wrapped up boxes which inevitably take an eternity to open, cause the damn pil... person is a sellotape abuser, only to find it's just some clothes and you now have to fake a smile for those sods who you didn't want to be with but said yes anyway to being with, cause it's christmas, and the utter scensorede cracker jokes are going around, and once it's all over for the year, again (finally!) you can settle down in front of the TV, and play a video game, but which one?

For me, Skyrim. Almost doesn't need to be said why...

Xcom for me, so refreshing, well thought out and very true to the original whilst making it accessible.

Skyrim was a 2011 release so you boys who have said that will have to think again wink

It's a toss up between ME3 (despite the awful ending) or The Walking Dead for me. WD probably edges it. Dishonored and XCOM get honourable mentions too.

I only got it this year... and they released all the DLC so far this year. (with 2 small exceptions for PC)

Anyway, it's my thread. smile

Bravest "big" release was probably XCOM. Also helped by being bloody good.

Would get my nod (although I've not played Dishonoured or FC3 yet)

Agreed - and mucho kudos to Firaxis for bucking the perceived wisdom that there is no appetite for that sort of strategy game on consoles. Hopefully, sales of it have quashed that idea and we may see more of that type of game going forwards.

The one thing I miss since moving from PC to console when the 360 came out is the range of good strategy games that are PC-only releases..... Alas, marriage and child mean the days of having mega-bucks to chuck at a decent gaming PC are long gone so consoles make more sense.

Neither of those make it a 2012 game, regardless! tongue outbiggrin

(It reminds me though that I still need to play the first lot of DLC that I bought back in July!)

Still got to play FC3 or Dishonoured but...

Shout out to "Faster Than Light" which was outstanding for a small indie game. "The Walking Dead" too was impressive, as was "Borderlands 2" and "Torchlight 2".

I'd have to go Farcry 3, Borderlands 2, Mass Effect 3 or Binary Domain

Max Payne 3 is probably the best game from 2012 I have played.

i wanted to say assasins creed 3 but whilst it was good i'm not quite sure it was the best AC let alone best of 2012

Halo 4 thus gets my vote with borderlands 2 a close 2nd.

Far Cry 3 for me. Black Ops 2 was just more of the same although the "pick 10" concept was a nice change but not enough IMO.
