Are these 'expensive' EPA fish oil tablets worth it?
Discussion
I am asking because I suffer what I think is mild depression, always have. I don't warrant it bad enough to go to the doctors, but it can be intrusive at times, sometimes when I least expect it.
A friend who says he suffered the same symptoms swears by these high strength EPA Omega 3 tablets. He says this cured him. However, its an expensive past-time. When I mentioned I took Omega 3 oil off the supermarket shelf (which is MUCH cheaper) he said that the cheapo tablets wouldn't really do anything for me. Well obviously he's correct in that respect.
I mean there are a fair few testimonials pointing out the effectiveness for it, but I'm always sceptical as (a) they're usually trying to sell you stuff and (b) if they were THAT good, why would doctors not prescribe them?
Any experience with these?

I can only agree 50/50 as I'm on phone, off to sleep and cant be arsed googling EPA. What I can add is if you stick to super market brand; double the dosage and see how that goes for you. The recommended amount is not enough (or so I've been told by a few personal trainers)A friend who says he suffered the same symptoms swears by these high strength EPA Omega 3 tablets. Why do you need an Omega 3 supplement? You only need 3g per day and you can easily get that in a good portion of Mackrel. (89p per tin from Tescos at last purchase. 4.3g of Omega 3 in extra virgin olive oil. Scoff it out of the tin. Yummie!) That will include EPA and DHA, as well as Vitamin D. Vitamin D is the most crucial thing for curing depression in the winter. In this country where the sun is never high enough in the sky for us to make Vitamin D (50 deg or higher), unless you get good food sources, you're almost certain to be suffering from seasonal depression.
Any pill is worse than natural food sources. Quick fixes, artificial crap and silly fads get you what you deserve. Don't be a MCD. You're hurting the world for the rest of us.
