Anyone know what's going on in Genk?
Discussion
I should've had a new S-Max delivered about 3 weeks ago. The latest expectation is for it to arrive at some unspecified time in the New Year.
Apparently absolutely no S-Maxes, Galaxies or Mondeos are currently being delivered anywhere in Europe.
The cause of this is seemingly industrial action and vandalism as a result of Ford announcing the closure of the Genk plant (where these things are made), but that's about all I know, and there doesn't seem to be much of anything at all in the press to explain more.
The dealer said that Ford are asking them to try and persuade people into other available vehicles of a similar spec, but they've only got base Zetec models on the S-Max, so are struggling.
Does anyone know any more about this?

It is no longer merely the battle of Ford-workers, this is an international start against the capitalist ways of multinationals, against the neoliberal politicians of the EU. Apparently.

I think you've answered your own question....
Ford have announced the closure of the Genk plant with en masse job losses.
Employees have returned the favour by sabotaging the plant and stopping production.
I'm just surprised there isn't more media coverage of it though. I know it's only Belgium, but it's impacting some of Ford's biggest sellers in a major way!Ford have announced the closure of the Genk plant with en masse job losses.
