Ok so 9 month old Astra and took it out for run, all ok until I give it the beans up a hill in 4th or higher and it just redlines. Got slowly worse and happening at slower speeds, plus the car stank of burnt clutch.

So when it was booked into dealer for service I told them the clutch was slipping and told them when etc. Got the car back, no its not the clutch the rear brakes were sticking a bit?

Now I admit I only know enough about working on cars to get me into trouble but they are fobbing me off? There was no problems at slow speeds, grinding noises or burning smells on the trip until the clutch was slipping.

Thanks for any help.

Well it doesnt take a rocket scientist to diagnose either.

So was the clutch slipping or not ? Smell could really be either, but smell hardly matters.

And in any case, clutches arent always covered under warranty due to the sheer driver abuse they may have to tolerate.
Some drivers might have them last the life of the car, others a week.

So if that was their diagnosis, what remedial work did they do to resolve it ?

Good luck.

It's amazing how main dealers survive given the levels of crap service they often offer combined with the levels of incompetence of their "technicians"
