I am at the stage where I am looking to change one of the cars.

Last time I did it, dealers could not have been more helpful, one even insisting on an extended test drive, telling us to take the car shopping, park it in the drive etc, to see if it fits our needs.

On my list = this could change - Volvo XC60, and Freelander.

I don't anticipate problems with Volvo. They kind of know me. My late Dad bought cars from them for 25 years or more, and I am still in Facebook touch with one of the former company bosses. He's told me he'll sort out an extended test drive if there is a problem.

I have however heard Land Rover are reluctant to hand over keys for an extended test.

Ideally, I would want one for a weekend. Happy to pay petrol, insurance etc, but I want to see how easy it is to get onto our rather awkward new double drive, and how it behaves on a bit of A road that it will spend its life on.

Ideally a weekend, but a few hours would do.

I've never had a "no" from a dealer, but as I say I have heard LR don't do extended drives. Apart from hiring one, does anyone have any suggested approach?

Even if you get a no, hire costs for a day would not be great. I seem to remember paying about £60 for a Freelander for a weekend a few yeas back.
