Not sure I want to do this, but…..
Discussion
Not had the V8S a year yet, but keep getting these nagging doubts about keeping it. I knew all about the cost of running these cars before I took the plunge, but didn’t necessarily bank on the budget overrun on the house. Now I need extra funds to complete that little project, as I really don’t want to skimp and cut corners while trying to finish it. This isn’t helped by some uncertainty about the stability of my job over coming months.
Was thinking about this all day yesterday, then went out for a blatt in the evening, which made things worse as the car still gives me one hell of a buzz every time I get behind the wheel.
Anyone here been in a similar situation? It’s a real tussle between ‘head’ and ‘heart’ and I need to sort it out soon.
Suppose I’d also be interested in your view on the value of my car. Prices of V8S’s seems to vary quite a bit. This is an excellent, solid, honest and unmolested example with all the paperwork, including Mr Ingleby’s inspection report from last year. What do you think?
I may sit and read all this tomorrow and have changed my mind again, but I need to do some careful thinking.

Don't like the sound of that Pete.
To a degree, I guess it comes down to whether you will want to buy another one as soon as you have done the house. If you will then you might consider raising the necessary finance on your house and therefore save yourself the significant hassle of finding one as good as the one you've already got.
On the other hand, if you quite like the idea of changing the V8S for say, a Griff
, then save yourself the finance costs, sell and enjoy looking for your new motor with a clear conscience when the house is sorted. Just my 2p

Sort of. My initial budget of 7k was really that, 7k
The heart won, I spent ££££, am happy, and slightly off topic - really burnt out (properly burning out, clinically I think
) from working so hard. I feel empty and in debt, cant even think about finances etc, so have got to spend until next year working to sort that out. However, its the Tiv that keeps me grinning. On that front, im on
Im 28, no kids, not married etc and my only biased advice would be to keep the car, enjoy it, and work towards sorting your finances out somehow... if you can.

Nor do I... it stinks mate!
Obviously I'll see if I can get around this little glitch, but when all is said and done I'd rather have a decent (and finished) roof over my head. There is only so long I can convince the Mrs that it's preferrable to have a TVR than a house that doesn't resemble a building site!
The 'job' issue worries me too. Nothing certain yet, but things could get a little rocky. Don't want to be left completely up the creek without a paddle.
One thing is sure, whatever happens... the TVR bug has bitten and hard. If the V8S does go, it will be replaced as soon as I can manage it.

well sadly my advice would be to sell the car.. otherwise when you are in the pits of financial despair on the dark rainy days which will make up most of the next 6 months you'll resent the car for making you skint... just depends how short of cash you're going to be..
As long as you have in your life plan to get another one the lack of a Tiv for a while won't kill you
(or do what I did... sell the Chimaera to raise some capital, and spend a little of the money on a V6S to tide me over
)
All the best,
Matt.

Have just come through exactly the same circumstances.
Spent 18 (enjoyable) months searching for a V8S some three years ago. Inspected, drove and poked around a few cars in that time - met alot of friendly and helpful people. Eventually settled on a Mica Blue K plated '93 model - Reg not too far from your own!
The current owner lent me the car for a day and I drove it to Peninsular for a professional inspection
- passed with flying colours. "One of the best we've seen" - do they say that to every TVR owner?
Then had three years happy hooning, but only covered
approx 5K! Could not justify keeping it.
Decided I would research the market again - this time
for a genuine purchaser who knew TVRs.
Darren Henderson (Shmern) was activly searching and showed interest when contacted. He arranged for Rob Ingleby to inspect and a deal was done!
Purchased the car in Feb '91 for £11,900 and sold for just under £10K.
Have I done the right thing?
At the moment I have to say NO. The sun still shines
and I miss her but when the weather changes I'll get over it!
If you don't have to sell keep hold of her, there's not too many about!
IMHO
Cheers Rog
