Further to a recent post I put up about crash scam cameras, I am still researching my preferred option. I looked at the various all in one units (Blackvue, Roadhawk etc) but I would prefer something much smaller and neater. I am now considering the Smart Witness solution who offer a tiny camera and a separate DVR unit which records video, GPS and other vehicle data (it's about the size of a cigarette box)

If I go for this the DVR unit will mount next to the battery behind the seat, and the camera will go just in front of the interior light pod, at the top of the windscreen.

Obviously I then need to run a cable between the two. Is there an easy cable route from the top of the screen, either down the A pillar, or across the top and then under the headlining at all?

Is the decorative cover on the A pillar easy to remove and refix, or something best avoided?

I won't do anything that will risk any of the interior fittings, so if its not easy I'll just leave it.

Anybody ran cables like that or otherwise had to access the A pillar? Cheers, Steve.

Steve,

Give me a call in the morning and I can talk you through it. It's not too bad to do. Rather than running to the battery area though, it may well be easier to run to the driver's footwell and pick up the power there.

yes I took a fused feed from the aircon motor supply in the drivers foot well which is live when the ignition is on.

Hi Steve,
just in planning phase at moment but James has been really helpful with that and the challenge (to me anyway!) of running a cable through Aston Martin cabin fittings.

I will put some pics up of the finished product on the Crash Scam Camera thread if and when I go ahead with it of course, no problem.
