Just got an email from my local OPC regarding price increases from the
4th January 2013.

The 991 S 'base' price will be increasing from £81,242.00 to £83,103.00 and remember this is base price! With my spec and additional equipment this means that the new car I was about to order next week is over £90,000.00.

After many many years of Pork ownership and 8 x 911's I think my custom will be going elsewhere. I have previously purchased a new 997 C2S at £71K with most options on it. Is the new 991 incarnation C2S worth 20K more?

Of the 13,000 cars Porsche built in November only 2,098 were 911's...
hardly surprising is it?

Hi, still got that lovely Black Turbo?

Have just sold a surplus property....

So really keen to treat myself, but the overall price now
for a 991 C2S is quite staggering....

So yep looking round for alternatives....

They cost more and lose value more than i ever remember. 911s are no longer a good new car buy.

YES! correct ... bought my first 911 in 1994 and would consider myself quite savvy when it comes to buying, running and selling them.

No more though, sadly I totally agree as a new car to buy they
aren't a good proposition at all.

So you spend an extra 2 grand and get literally *nothing* extra?

Awesome, sign me up for 2!

Doubt it'll harm sales though. Just glad there's nothing new which takes my fancy. The 991 and 981 derivatives are very nice, but don't get me excited like the 997. They just seem a little less characterful. Entirely subjective of course; still amazing kit.

exclusivity has its price... smile
Joking aside: since the 997.1 hit the market in 2004, compound inflation in the UK has added 27.9% (yes really) to the price of goods and services. On top of that, in 2004 the exchange rate was 1.46 euros to the pound, whereas today it is 1.23 - ie sterling has weakened by 16% against the euro. Now multiply the inflation effect by the exchange rate hit, and your £71k 997 from 2004 should today set you back the handsome sum of... £105k.
The conclusion from all this is that Porsche cars have become comparatively CHEAPER over the last 8 years with gains in manufacturing efficiency... not more expensive.
Go figure!

Don't dispute those figures at all ....

My Net income though hasn't gone up 27%

I get paid in Euros... and know per month how much I lose
when I exchange...

Plus i didn't buy my 997 in 2004. To be fair it was the end of 2004 when I saw the first ones available in the UK.

I was being conservative with my 991 S spec too ....

It could actually / easily be an increase of 26K over my 997 C2S

Which ever way you or I cut it, It's a 911 ... and it's way way too expensive

Yes, been offered one and offered to get my order in next week for current prices...

Am still left with the same 'dilemma' though... have just re-spec'd my ideal 991 C2S and its £91.7K !!

Even a base 991 3.4 ltr is coming in at £79K for base/entry level
model, that they want extra £'s for floor mats!!

For this money there are some nice lightly used cars around.
Turbo
Turbo S
GT3
GT3RS
AMV12
+ Audi, Ferrari. Plenty of choice.

Just been on to the German Porsche website and a basic 911 Carrera S with full leather and PCM is 108,820 Euros which equates to £88,265.00, so does that mean we're getting a bargain (relatively speaking of course)?

I wonder how many Johnny Foreigners come and buy their 911 over here and take them back?

Capt

It's difficult to compare, as in my European countries
the 'base' prices often includes equipment such as PCM, Leather
and even 3rd year warranty in it.

I may be tempted to look at pre-owned cars with < 1500 miles on them. Two nice spec cars (both White) in the OPC network.....

I guess the UK 3rd year warranty and VTS would add another £2,400?

Then again, buying used does make a lot of sense and there are some nicely optioned examples at the OPCS so may be worth a punt. I'm keeping mine until it's worthless, so probably another 18 months should do it. Either that or it will self destruct in the meantime...

You know I have a lovely 997 C2S with only 28K on it, OPC Warranty till Feb 2014 so you know, I don't know why I'm
even bothering looking! Have been offered 30K for P/Ex my car! smile

Why in a lengthy recession characterised by low wage inflation and huge inflationary pressure from emerging and more dynamic economies does anyone think a high-end purchase should look cheaper? Or, to put it another way, In 2004 we all felt better off and these cars looked better value through rosier spectacles.

The figures quoted above don't lie. The 991 is, in real terms, cheaper than a launch 996 or 997.

Depreciation may be another matter, but there is no hard data yet. As to whether a 991 is worth £20k more than a 997, it is to me. The 991 is vastly more capable. And, on yesterday's Lake District blast, more fun too... Yes, I'm surprised I wrote that as well. It has taken a while for me really bond with the sports car hidden inside that comfortable GT, but I seem to be scratching beyond the surface of it's capabilities now. And what a car it is turning put to be.

That's my point, or at least part of it...

I want a 911

Not a GT car ....

How anyone could possibly consider buying a 991 'new', simply beggars belief IMO.
