just got a set off ebay and the idiot didn't pack them properly so they now have some small tears in about an inch long, will they still be ok or can they be repaired? They're only cheapo second hand jobs

Ruined. You could always have a go at a bodge repair using some thin sticky tape.

The big question, however, is what do they sound like? If a speaker sounds OK it is OK.

If it is only the grill covers that are torn it won't affect the sound.
If it's the cones that are torn, they will probably make a noise of some sort but they are really scrap.

If the tears are between the centre and the outside, and not too big, you could carefully fix them using a hot melt glue gun.

Just put the minimum amount of glue over the tear to seal it, and they will sound fine.

Only if the tears are too big so as the cone is distorted or flapping about will the sound be affected.
