Driver opens car door in front of cyclist who comes off and is run over by bus
Driver not guilty of mans laughter

Getting knocked off your bike by a car door opening in front of you is not nice ranting
Even if youre 3ft from the car it can still get you
What should the penalty be?
What about the bus - should it have given the cyclist half a lane space in case he came off?
Are some things just unlucky

Of course it was the cyclist being out of control according to the wide boy with the pimp tints.

I have had two incidences of having doors swung at me, first was a builder, I shouted "Oi" and he called me a , which I thought was rather uncalled for seeing as
it was him who swing the door into my path, I turned tound and pointed that out to him very politely and he had a change of heart and gave me a half arsed apology.

The other was a "Lady" in an Audi cabrio, she parked (I say parked, looked like it was being abandoned) outside the off licence, I slowed as I could see what was going to happen and there was a car coming the other way so it didnt allow me to afford myself the right distance around the "door zone" of the Audi, as expected she launched the door open whilst jabbering into her phone, I had slowed but not that much so she got a 16 stone snorting lump of cyclist hit her door, on the inside, she was hoiking herself out and jumped out of her skin when she found me, I left a lovely mark from my front tyre on the door card and hopefully perhaps bent the door a bit, had I not slowed it would have been pretty nasty.

Interesting that his windows were tinted to allow only 17% of light through.

Way I read it was the cyclist was in the bus lane with the bus Behind when pimped up nobber opened his door.

To be honest we could speculate all day this like.....

The cyclist shouldn't have been riding in the door zone

Pimped up nobber reakons he only opened his door a tiny bit to look out.

One thing I do know is that a lot of people don't look when they swing their doors open other day I drove past a bus that had clean ripped off a car door.

As the judge said, it was losers all round... including the British justice system. You are supposed to look in your mirror when you open a car-door, it's not difficult. Likewise, if you are driving a 10-ton bus, you should operate it in such a way that you can stop it in time if someone falls off a bike in front of you. That is probably a bit more difficult, but something that a lot of bus drivers fail to achieve even minimum standards on.

Yes, st happens, but st happens far more frequently when carelessness is thrown into the equation.

"door zone"! - poor cyclists can't ride in the road, because that's for cars, and then they can't ride nearer the pavement... because that's for car doors frown

Man in car fully responsible in this case, I think - right of way goes to wheeled vehicles already on the carriageway, not car doors. I hope nobody needs to die next time somebody forgets this.

Case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time for the cyclist?

I always look in the mirror and then open the door a little so I can double check for cyclists etc. Lets hope he always double checks before opening his door again.

When I overtake a cycle I allow a car width. When I pass a parked car I leave enough space for the door to be opened without hitting my car. Shouldn't cyclists leave enough space for the door to be opened when passing parked cars?

Nobber should have checked the mirror before opening the door.

Cyclist should have left more space (if possible).

Tinted windows on the front of cars, and windscreen p*ss me off. Generally seen on cars that have been "modded" with some sh*tty aftermarket wheels and fog lights on. Why the F*ck would you want to let less light into a car? FFS!

I think a "Death by Careless" would have been appropriate.

You shouldn't put any part of your car anywhere you don't know to be clear...

I think the tint probably contributed, 17 percent, even if he looked he could see the square root of fook all, urban pimp wannabe, I suspect he doesnt give a toss, just tried to wheedle out of it by saying the cyclist was already out of control and it was nothing to do with him opening the door.

Cyclists need to watch the door zone, car doors can open a fair distance and people get blase, like that daft bh that killed that woman whilst texting.
