Not sure where to go next...
Discussion
At the moment I drive a Golf Edition 30, which I'm not that excited about as a lot of the driving I do is dull and when you get a nice piece of road, the Golf really isn't up there with the best cars I've driven.
I don't owe anything on it and it's quite high mileage (58 plate 68k) I don't think it's worth much more than £9k. In the new year it would seem the company I work for could pick up a new contract and this will mean lots of motorway miles. I don't find the car that comfy and it's not that good on fuel either, plus it does like a pair of front tyres for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
So I'm not sure what to do now. After a recent house move, I could do with a little more capital kicking around (£5k would be nice). I've looked at lease deals online, but I don't feel comfy with the idea of paying out money for something I won't own (although I'm open to it as there are some good deals if you look hard enough).
I could go with the barge route, and get a comfy mile muncher and be done with it.
So, up to £5k on something that comfy, frugal and bullet proof or around £300 a month on a lease with at least 15k PA and ideally care package thrown in, of course I could just stick with the Golf and ignore what I don't like about it.

Hmmm, I'm not sure if that fits the frugal part of comfy, frugal and bullet proof...theboyfold said:

Well mine is extremely comfy, has been entirely bullet proof and has cost very little to run over the past five years.
What do you get out of it on a long run? I don't doubt that it's comfy, but I can't see it breaking 30mpg too much on mixed driving.300bhp/ton said:
£5k would get you a Brabus ForFour. I admit no more comfy than the Golf, but arguably a more nimble drive and with a 1.5 turbo capable of 40-45mpg.
Apart from that maybe a BMW or Jag X-Type.
I don't like the Smart range at all...Apart from that maybe a BMW or Jag X-Type.
My Dad has an X-Type, it's the 2.5 V6 and does pretty much the same MPG as my Golf, so all I'd be doing is releasing the capital in the Golf, running costs wouldn't go down too much. Plus, he's forever having electrical issues with his.

5k could get you a very nice e46 330d? comfy, frugal (for performance offered). Might not cover the reliable bit though but i'm sure with proper maintanence would be fine?
That's not a bad shout. http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use...
The high bork factor could be a worry though...
I've just been reading about setting up a salary sacrifice scheme for leasing cars, that could be worth looking into.
