What to get my old man for christmas (mercedes themed?)
Discussion
Hi,
My dad takes delivery of a new C Class next saturday to replace his beloved SLK. I need to get him a Christmas present. Ideally bellow £15 (a broke student here!) and preferably Mercedes themed!
While I'm on the subject of the new W204 C Class are there any things we should be aware of? We went for the 220CDI engine as fuel economy was the reason for the change from the SLK. We went for a Sport model which should look good.
We worked out that we should save about £50 a week with the diesel? Thats doing 120 miles a day 5, 5 days a week with the car doing an estimated 60mpg.
Any ideas would be really helpful!
Thanks,
Chris

Sorry to dampen your spirits but if you're expecting 60mpg I fear you'll be very disappointed, the claimed figures are (as they are from most manufacturers) a joke.I had the very same car on an 11-plate, most I ever saw was 48mpg and that was a very long motorway run from Eastbourne to Glasgow, around town it was mid-late 30s mpg.
I hope you enjoy yours better than I did mine.

That should see him well! Happy christmas.
edit. Didn't see the £15, I'm sure they'd be open to offers!

Odd we took it on a fairly decent run through the twisty stuff and on the motorway and we were getting 40-45 on the twisty roads and the 57-60 on the motorway uphill. Either way it will beat hte SLK that struggles to get 20mpg on country roads and tops 35 on the motorway!
It could have something to do with the tyres on it, we were looking at the coupe which was slightly worse on fuel consumption due to the wider tyres at the back. We also went for the 17" alloys rather than the 18 inchers. As we learnt on our audi low profile 19" wheels aren't cheap to shoe!

If he's got a garage, how about a Mercedes Only Parking Sign ?

Great idea. Thanks!
I actually ended up buying the Olympic opening an closing ceremony box set. Not mercedes themed but I'm sure it will go down well!
The sight of my dad in mercedes own vest scared me if I'm honest!
If only he had gone for a boxster I would have had a huge choice from trainers to pipes!
Thanks!

I drove my C220 Cdi auto from Welwyn to Blackpool and back yesterday. I tried as hard as I could on the mpg, steady 70 on the motorways gentle accelerating etc and managed 47.8mpg. Love to know how you managed 57-60mpg!
I've managed 52 mpg fairly easily in my 350 CDi on a longish motorway run, (Kent to Midlands) so I can see how high 50's might be achievable with a 220Gassing Station | Mercedes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
