I will be travelling with between 6-10 friends from Dublin to London and back again within 24hrs for a concert towards the end of May. Its possible, as a collective we could do this by private plane as it would be a late night flight back to Dublin (we aren't interested in hanging around after).

Would anyone have ideas on costs and cost differences between the different aircraft?

Many thanks in advance.

EDIT NO.1- I am currently waiting on quotes from a few charter companies. I just want to compare what they say with what may actually be the case.

EDIT NO.2 - I should also point out the reasoning behing it. Standard City of London return flight - €250, Hotel €200, transfers €50. So over up to 10pax we have spending of €5k. Would I be right in thinking it could be done for much cheaper than this?

6 People for a private jet on this routing is a sensible number...10 people isn't unless you want standing room only. You might get a King Air 350 (The cheapest way of moving 8 PAX and still having a semblance of VIP transport and not having someone sat on the belted bog at the back) will come in at around £8-10k for this.

Much Cheaper? Absolutely not. I would reckon for 10 people it will be more than 5k

My girlfriend who is a broker suggests €15k minimum for 10people on that routing. She said you may get it a little cheaper based on the fact that you have time.

PM me if you want any more info/help

It certainly does look like it would costs double what I would of thought.

4 people return on those dates is £10k. Not viable....... looks like it Ryanair.

What has just dawned on me is the actual cost of running one of these things. How cheap is it to fly one of these regularly?

Take for example.... A super star DJ. €20k per show minimum performance fee. Fri/Sat/Sun 2 flights a day possible more. They could be flying across Europe each night with their 3-6 best friends on board.

The jet does take up a good chunk of the performance fee or does the operational costs decrease dramatically as the usage goes up? Or is it a case of a cheaper/older jet? I understand the jets are leased but......

The running costs are totally absurd and beyond comprehension of most normal people.

I recently got on an empty leg between farnborough and geneva with an rrp of 12.5k eur. 1hr10mins flight time. Which goes some way to suggesting that the club or the record company is paying for the Dj and his mates.

Where they come into their own is when you need to fly a number of people to the same location who normally fly business class, especially if there's no flight back when you need it so they all have to stay in a hotel.

A friend's company do a lot of work in Iraq, the normal route is DXB to Erbil via Emirates.... costing approx $2500 a head... plus $350 a night each for a hotel, it's cheaper for them to charter a plane and fly the guys there and back privately.

How many seats though?

Yes I remember I was chatting to a very light jet (can't remember which one) salesman at the Farnborough Airshow:

Rep: Do you fly?
Me: Yes, but nothing that expensive.
Rep: We do fractional ownership!

This was on a challenger 604 with 11 seats but it's rare that someone says "I want an aircraft with 11 seats for 11 people".

Realistically though you have to have everything else in your life totally paid for to start flying on them, and then you need to have everything paid for 100 times over to start considering buying one. OR the company pays and it's not an issue that you have to worry about.

Even a citation mustang with 4 seats that you basically have to crawl into because its so small, costs around $3m to buy.

I know a friends fathers friend (no there is a vague connction) who bought themselves a new jet when they sold their company. Their budget for running the thing is c.£1m a year. That buys a LOT of BA/Emirates/Cathay first class flights around the world!

It's the only way to fly though isn't it? Almost like gong back in time. You can go meet the pilots, have a sit in their seats, have a go etc

Cost wise a Gulfstream 550 from Farnborough to the Bahamas last year was £90k each way.

In 2002 at the height of the Superstar DJ thing, Judge Jules pissed me off by taking too long to put his records into the overhead bins. That was a scheduled BA flight from Malta to Gatwick, although he was in business class.

AfroJack, a dance DJ, flys private regularly and has a decal on the side of the plane saying 'AfroJet'
So is he really on THAT much to have a private plane transport him to gigs?

I didn't think it would be that much.

Probably. Six figures wouldn't be entirely impossible for a big night at a big club. Someone like David Guetta (he's massive in the US) probably gets more than that.

Thats the thing. I work in this industry and I am acutely aware of how much these guys actually make per show and how private jets are now the "in" thing among the €20k + DJs and acts.

I have seen a €4.5k Eco Flight Contribution on a contract for one of the bigger DJs. When it came to flight times his crew just sent me a tail number of which it was a Cessna Citation of some sort flying in from Stockholm. Thats what got me thinking that it could be attainable for a quick jaunt to London.

Seems not to be so.

Realistically anything above €5k for six people is not an option.
