All burgers to be cremated from Now on!
Discussion
Yep, I saw red - well actually I didn't....
After having one of my periodic "I want a decent burger" moments last night as I was heading with Miss Simes from Ulverston to home in Bolton, I diverted to one of Nigel Haworths establishements in the Ribble Valley.
I ordered a burger - with cheese and bacon - and is my want with a premium rump burger ordered it medium rare.
I was slightly pissed off to be told we are only allowed to serve burgers well done, and so I duly received my cremated rump offering in a bun..
After doing some research - it appears that burgers have to be cooked to 70C for a minimum of 2 minutes. And one of the London chains is currently taking this through the courts at the moment!

Now I can understand this rule applying to your normal shop burger or your corner takeaway - but when I have a nice piece of steak, minced and cooked as a burger in a reputable establishment, I want to be able to have it "my way".. What's next - steak - lamb ???
Apologies if this is a pea roast - search didnt show this up at all..
Simes.

We are lucky to have a fantastic burger place in manchester called almost famous.
All the burgers are pink in the middle & is the best I've ever tasted.
But excuse my ignorance but I always thought red meat had to be at least flash cooked because of bacteria on the outside (mince would be all over it) like chicken has to be cooked through because bacteria penetrates the meat and is all the way through, or am I talking bollx?

Following an almost fatal food poisoning episode in Portugal caused by an undercooked burger some 30 years ago I have always made sure my meat is well done, I just do not understand the fashionable penchant for having pink "everything".
It was therefore most enlightening to hear on Radio 4 yesterday lunchtime a discussion on the pink burger subject featuring an owmner of a trendy burger place and the Government expert a Profesor who has carried out a number of investigations of food poisoning outbreaks including one where 8 people died who had ate the same contaminated meal .
In a rare example of reasoned argument and discussion both parties agreed that it is extremely unlikely that Ecoli, as that is the bug in question, would be found in a burger. Some meat seems to be heavily contaminated whilst other meat isn't. Its almost the luck of the draw.
However to paraphrase the Prof, " If you continue eating undercooked or very rare meat you will probably get away with it for a long, long time, but eventually you will be poisoned, in effect your luck runs out.
And then your kidneys are destroyed.
Its your choice."
Cheers,
Tony

The article refers to a 'nw ruling' but I dont thin kthe corut has made any ruling yet.
If the restaurant has sold dodgy burgers outside the scope of guidance then its made a rod for its own back.
guidance is only guidance but there will be a duty not to serve unsafe fod - so although they might stick 2 fingers up to the guidance (assumign it is not statutory guidance you have to follow) they will face the consequences if they kill someone.
