Confused by this one
I always though peanut butter was really bad to eat - high fat content etc etc
But reading body building magazines and interviews a lot of the guys mention eating it as part if their diet plans.
Have I been mislead to the nutritional value of it or is there some other benefit?

Because not all fat is bad fat. It's very 1960s thinking to think that fat makes you fat. Some fat is unhealthy for you, other fat, eat it until you can't stand it. Peanut butter contains good fats and has lots of protein. It also has a s

t load of calories - which may or may not align with your training needs.1) good fats are essential in a balanced diet! Peanut butter has good fats
2) whether it makes you fat is related to your overall calorie consumption. I.e. Eat moe calories than what you need of anything and you will gain weight
3) tastes bloody good to me
have a spoonful or so most days ether training or not
4) check the ingredients as main brands add unnecessary crap to it, bulk buy whole earth/supermarket own organic when on offer

Yep. I'm on a deficit and eat a spoon or two every day.3) tastes bloody good to me
have a spoonful or so most days ether training or notI don't get the fascination with peanut butter. Maybe because I think it stinks and makes me retch when I last dared myself to taste some, but basic raw peanuts are better in every way, so why bother with them mushed up into a butter form?
Natural peanuts have, per 100g, more protein, better fat profile (almost half the sat fats, more mono and poly unsat fats) better vitamin and mineral profile, more fibre, much better anti-inflamatory profile, twice the plant sterols and about half the sugar of peanut butter. (obviously all depending on brand)
You can also buy peanuts at around 27p per 100g at Tescos, which makes it the 2nd cheapest protein source I know of (powered milk being the cheapest). On a quick search at Tesco.com it looks like around 38p per 100g for own-brand cheap sh!t.
To me, peanut butter is just a means of making a superfood like peanuts, less super but "nicer tasting" in the same old tac of adding sugar and low quality fats.
edit: ooh no, some peanut butter brands appear to add some Omega-3, although at about 80mg, it's hardly a dent in your 3g per day requirement. Whoopie doo.
