RH offer Equity Red Star insurance and that has the european breakdown bundled in. Classicline also offer ERS cover and their price for me was slightly less than RH - they also have the UK b/down bundled in with the european b/down as an extra (that was the total for RH comparison) - so if you want UK but might not need europe b/down C'line may be worth a look (Their quote to me had all sorts of funny things in it - such as the b/down has a condition that you always carry a spare set of keys - barking mad! - so I wasn't too impressed so asked them for clarification of that (plus a few other areas where the words appeared to be not what they told me on the phone) in writing a few days ago and still waiting - sadly this is the sort of experience I had with them a few years ago and that was why I dropped them as I was never really sure what the cover was).
I was having another ring round yesterday and for some strange reason called Flux - even though they quoted me £545 2 years ago - and surprisingly they also offered ERS cover and cheaper than RH or C'line and apparently with none of the silly C'line weasle words. So at the moment what they have given me is 5k miles, £250xs at £281 with the full european b/down (incl home start) for £54 so cheaper than both RH and C'line by some way. I want to have a look at the policy and see if it has the sillies in it but they claim their policy is not the same as RH or C'line as each has their own - so if correct a good price.

Be careful when buying breakdown insurance, our Griffs aren't getting younger and some policies have a vehicle age limit. I bought my breakdown policy from Directline (car insurance from Mannings) and rather than naming the car I put the cover on self/spouse for any car. No age limit on car whilst in the UK. Much cheaper than having seperate breakdown on Griff.

Well the new Griff is due to arrive this week so I've started to look round for insurance. First quote was £550, for a 5,000 mile classic policy
with no endorsements etc and garaged.
Does anyone get their's a little cheaper, if so with who?
£250 for me which includes commuting to work (for those nice sunny days in the summer), this is from Adrian Flux, 3000 miles per year. Was with Mannings last year but they wanted nearly £400 this time around. By the way my Griff is a 4.3, 1992.

I've now had a chance to look at the Breakdown policy from Flux; it is with Equity Red Star and whilst the Classicline cover which is also ERS says in the terms and conditions "You must carry a roadworthy spare tyre with your vehicle at all times and a spare set of vehicle keys" the Flux cover doesn't. Hmmm!
I've seen the tyre thing elsewhere but if you want to use a tyre inflation kit that could be a nuisance but why carry 2 sets of keys? Somewhat impractical.

I've now rec'd the insurance paperwork from Flux and after a more careful read see that the B/down cover does have the same sillies as Classicline - ie you always have to carry a roadworthy spare tyre and spare set of keys. I've asked the question re tyre inflation kit (ie sealant plus pump) as many new cars don't have a spare anyway and also what happens if spare set of keys isn't carried - the policy only says you have to carry them so presumably could have 2 sets on the one keyring - seems sensible to me (not!)... what are these people like!

Just an update re the comment about B/down cover above - I've now spoken to Flux - they were very helpful and have quickly come back to me with answers after checking with their rescue people - the spare set of keys is said to not be a big issue and only applies when on the continent (I'd missed that - doh!) so understandable and the carrying of a sealant kit is said not be a problem as well as the rescue people are well aware that some cars don't have spares and others (like the Griff) don't have a huge boot and carrying a sealant kit when touring, etc. would be a realistic thing to do. So all sorted.
