What is it about the fking insurance industry that thinks it's acceptable to fking rip off customers for their fking loyalty? The fking irritating auto renewal business that pretends to be a fking 'convenience' feature I fully understand is there the punish the fking lazy customer and trap them into another years cover, but a certain fking insurance company pretending to be a fking 'emergency service' is fking taking the piss trying to charge me fking 50% extra merely to my retain my business compared to a shiny new customer.

I thoroughly expect the fking Club of Royal Automobiles does the same thing, so are there any genuine breakdown companies left out there that dont take the piss out of their customers?

Never auto renewal.

Shop every year, loyalty is a thing of the past.

Last 3 years I've stayed with the same insurer. Ignore their quote, go onto their website as a new customer and get it for two thirds of their original offer.

Not ideal, but always good to shop around

Good rant by the way.

Where's your loyalty to your insurer if you are willing to leave them if they don't offer you something for a price you deem resonable?

It's a business ffs. You either take them up on their offer of service provision or you don't. Why are people still surprised by this?

Just insured with the AA as they were the cheapest by far. As part of the sales speil, she asked if they could keep this card number to auto renew next year... my answer was a firm "No"!! but the actual words I used would get me banned from here.

Not so much "never auto renew" as "read it carefully before letting it auto renew". My GTE 16V was £160 this year, down £90. Not going to beat that.

Because if they actually sent a half decent renewal, I bet a lot of people would just auto-renew.
I did last year (auto renew), the quote was reasonable and I was happy at not having to bother phoning around.

Hadrian sucks just quoted me £600 to renew the mx5, phoned them up and they were adamant that was their best price, shopped around and got it for £200, phoned them back and they agreed to match it. Just goes to show how much you can get ripped off at renewal time.

Too many fks, so not enough variety in the swearing for me. Must try harder.

Regarding the insurance issue, I totally agree, though. The senior-ranked Navy chap that insures my car sent me the renewal notice via email yesterday for £150 more than last year. Well, I hope his fking boat sinks, the robbing bd.

I don`t think you get the point.
Why should I be charged more for renewing (Staying with them) than I am quoted when I approach them as a "new" customer?

They all seem more interested in luring new customers than looking after their existing ones.
I tried staying "loyal" to mine and they just took the piss with the renewal, it being around £200 higher than my quote as a "new" customer.

I would love to just not think about my insurance and just let it renew but I know I`ll get ripped off so I have the hassle of shopping around every year.

Renewed with Direct Line this month the renewal figures were £10 per month cheaper than last year, including the fault claim from the summer when the wife reversed into a colleagues car, I was more than happy to continue with them.

i got a renewal from admiral a few years ago, 900 the previous year dropped to 890 with a years extra no claims. got a quote of around £600 i think so rang them to tell them i wanted to cancel, the guy came back sounding all smug about how he'd blagged his boss into letting him knock it down to £750. took me ages to get him to cancel it, he couldnt understand why i wouldnt take his reduced offer and "save myself the hassle of switching". the phone call to the new company took me 5-10 minutes max, was on for about half an hour trying to cancel!

Sadly that`s not been my experience with the "Red Telephone" people.
They are good when you need to claim though, no messing around.

Your forum name describes your post perfectly.

As others have said why would you stay with a company charging so much more than another just to be "loyal"? If you can get it significantly cheaper elsewhere then unless you have so much money that you don't care if you have to pay so much more to stay (And I know pistonheads is full of high rollers such as this) then why would you not go elsewhere?

I got my quote through a few weeks ago and a company whose name is something which a town crier would shake around to make a noise wanted to charge me £847 to reinsure my car for 10 months! I went online and found a quote for 547 for 12 months, rang aforementioned company and got the stupidest sounding call centre worker ever named Vicky who tried to entice me to stay by saying the quotes must be for different cars, Do you think I am as stupid as you sound love? no thanks!

Bunch of _ _ _ _ ends!

What annoys me is that I get charged MORE for staying with them than I would be charged as a new customer.
I would think that, having got my business (2 cars plus home and contents insurance they would want to keep it.
This seems not to be the case as they would rather attract new customers than keep their existing ones happy.

I know it`s not the same in all cases but it does seem to be very common.
Loyalty is no longer rewarded.

its how business works, discount to get new customers in then provide a good service and hope they want to stay.
