knocking noise when breaking

help. when breaking, be it sharp or soft there is a knocking noise coming from the front. Any ideas what this could be and would it be expensive to repair?

Repeated knocking or just a clunk?

If it's the latter, I would supect wishbone bushes.

sort of a clunk when i release the break pedal.

The first thing I would look at would be the state the discs and pads are in- on all four corners.

Even if they look ok, run your finger over the inside of the discs and feel if there's a distinct rut. Sounds to me that an inside pad (or two) has worn to metal..

The clunking noise, sounds like its coming from the passenger side.
The car passed it's MOT in July (when we bought it)so if there was any problems wouldn't it of been spotted then?
Just to let you know; every night its parked on the kerb and its the passenger side that mounts the kerb. Would this cause a problem?
