Had a slight set back with my project. Managed to crack three liners which needed a new block and top hat liners. Picked up the rebuilt engine from Rob the other day, just giving it a paint job before I refit it.

Etch primer applied.

Looking good in silver

Nearly ready to pop it back in

Wish v8d woul'd sort their website out so that it renders on modern browsers - safari won't render it and IE has to be run in compatibility mode... :-)

I too need this information. What induction system are you using? Eight throttle bodies? What cam?

These are the things we need to know.

Please.

Thankyou.

Sorry lads, here goes.

V8D 5.2 with forged pistons, special rods (no idea what make they are)
Cam designed by Rob
Heads modified by David Vizard and Rob
Inlet manifold and induction system designed by me from a basic spec that Rob gave me
ECU currently Motec but considering changing to Megasquirt

Rob said it would produce around 450BHP with the right cam but i prefer a softer cam giving better road manners so i expect it to be high 300s or maybe 400 if i'm lucky.

Cheers

Why on earth would you want to go from motec to mega squirt ?.. Motec is far better built and depending on the model better features ? I went from emerald to motec as I wanted traction and launch control and dual lambda closed loop. Looks a nice install and like the new plenum, what's the pipe in front of the rad low down ?

I just find the Motec a bit restrictive. It doesnt have enough outputs to run the fuel pump or fans for example and the software is quite crude, DOS based. When I bought it (from a Motec guy called Wilks) I paid £700 and i knew very little about ECUs so i paid him £200 and he tuned it for me by sitting in the car with a laptop.

I now want to do more myself but they want £400 to enable the data logging and wide band lambda control whereas I can buy a complete MS setup for £500 ish.

I have followed several threads written by people who have used the MS. it seems to be very advanced and user freindly. Has loads of options built in, you can expand it as you go along for very little extra cots or hassle. Also there seems to be a wealth of information available with lots of people willing to help especially the guy from extraefi called Phil. It seems to be reliable as well so I am really interested.

David Vizard, now there's a name! I bought his book on the A series many years back when I used to tinker with my old Mini... and what a damn good book it was!

Yes chose to stay with Hydraulic lifters because the cam is fairly mild mannered. I don't know much about roller followers and cams, Rob didn't mention them so it wasn't considered.
