Best place to sell a Lens. (Best photo forums etc)

I have a Brand new Canon lens which I have no use for.

Where do you guys sell your Photo equipment? I know there is a classified section on here but doesn't look like much stuff is selling\going on.

I have posted it on another unrelated forum but would appreciate some advice on other forums I could sign up to to shift it quicker.

I hate Ebay but will use it as a last resort/

Ebay still seems to get the best price but then you've got the charges which even things out.

It's worth a punt on the classifieds here as it's free though.

Its a EFS 17-85mm f/4-5.6

I find selling on ebay is a pain in the ass but I suppose I would likely get the best price for it there.

Just thought there would be a good Photo forum with a members market type section

I was watching a s/h D800 body on eBay yesterday - purely for academic purposes you understand - and although you can get a new pukka one from Wex for about £1870, it sold SECOND HAND for about £2,050. Bonkers!

Talk Photography forums classified section Clicky!. I've bought and sold plenty there and it has always been excellent and no selling fees is a big plus!

The place is full of enthusiastic pros and keen amateurs alike. The classified section has an iTrader rating system (a bit like eBay feedback), so expect a little caution from prospective buyers as you will initially have a '0' rating.

Have a scan through to what prices the same lens is selling for on there as a good guide.

AV forums has a thriving classified section for photographic gear. It's free and you can post straight away. Read the rules carefully though.

You could also try a used dealer like MPB. I've been surprised a couple of times by how much they were willing to offer me for used gear.

That's true. I've bought and sold there also, both AV gear and photographic.

I think you might find that your EFS 17-85mm f/4-5.6 has a limited market since the 15-85 was introduced, particularly on a dedicated photography forum. Maybe eBay would be your best option.

Is that why Im not having a lot of interest?

I will try the retailer suggested then. I could look at px against on of those Samsung NX1000 deals

Someone might pay 200 for it on eBay, if you're lucky, but MPBs price is more in line with what they go for on Talk Photography forums.

Thanks. I have bit the bullet and listed it on ebay with a starting price of £150 and a buy it now of £210

I bought one a couple of years back when I used a 450D and paid £170 for it.

I think £200 is optimistic myself.
