4 X 4 Campervan

I've been looking at 4x4 campervans for a while as I maybe interested in getting one early in the year. Don't want a big one and the budget is up to about 5K.

Seems to be many hundreds of Bongos out there but don't think they've got the capability to go over rough ground.

Seems to be only Mitsubihi Delicas or Toyota Hiace vehicles. These all seem to have 2.8 or 3.0 turbo deisels in them which don't seem to be that economical.

Is there anything out there that I haven't thought of ?

Needs 4x4, economical on a long run (30+mpg hopefully more), sleep 2 at minimum, under 5K ?

A 110 td5 van will tickle 30mpg on a run, honest. Not the most comfortable thing but I'm 6'4" and have slept in various LWB landys over the years. Some insulation, can heater, led lights and carpet goes a long way towards making them comfy-ish.

A little bit too 4x4 that one I think !! Need a bit more comfort and features than a Landie.

4x4 Transit and self convert.(ex waterboard/railtrack)
Also the 4x4 transit has a higher ground clearance which may suit your needs better

I presume you have discounted T25 because of their cost? These are a 'little' over budget, but will hold their value like nothing else.... ( i ha ve now jinxed all T25 owners and values will drop through the floor!)

Yes, the VWs just seem overpriced for what they are. Don 't really like the look or sound of them !! Suppose if I look and drive one I might feel different about them !!

The VW will always be worth something when you sell it whereas I'm not sure a Jap van/mpv/4x4 would. Also, look at the hassles the chap restoring the Shogun is having with parts on the Readers Car section here and that's a vehicle that sold in its thousands in the UK not some strange grey import, at least you should be able to find bits for Veedubs easily enough (especially important if you are looking to use the camper for daily driving)

I got a T4 Synchro and converted it, it was ex-transco and over budget as I got the best I could find but £5k will get one.

Agree they are silly priced but they are genuinely very good. Had our California 4Motion a year and it's been great. A bit out of budget though...
