When NSL was increased from 50 to 60 back in the 70s accident rates went down
If they can show that an 80 limit on some motorwaya is safer than 70 will they go for it?

I voted for they will stay with 70mph but in reality I suspect they will actually settle for 50mph!

There's a joke about ursus and the chuckle brothers in there but I won't be the one to make it.

On the topic in question, I think the limit will be raised to 80mph on certain motorways to harmonise with the rest of the EU, but I also think that at the same time we're likely to see country road limits falling, road pricing becoming more prevalent (especially Congestion Charge type systems for cities other than London), and more draconian policing of the new limits.

Both sides of the argument will be played by all parties to suit their agendas and nobody will get what they want.

C'est la vie.

I don't get what the fuss is about.

They've been talking about a 80mph limit with zero tolerance. So in practice it's not much different to our current 70mph with a bit of tolerance. I don't think it will change motorway speeds or behaviour much.
