In terms of proving it legally, the seller obviously doesn't have a leg to stand on. The same reason why shops won't rectify mistakes with change after you've left, as of course you could have pocketed the 'missing' amount.

Very odd he didn't bother to count it though, I certainly would.

I guess they could fail to send the V5 off and report the vehicle as stolen? Might be difficult to prove though if the buyer has a signed receipt?

I managed to short change the seller of my most recent banger purchase by about £70. I handn't realised that I had two separate mini bundles of cash (and he hadn't counted). I got about a mile down the road, when my phone rang. I pulled over checked the voice mail and found out what I had done! Being boringly honest I turned around and gave him the remainder.

a) you are crazy for leaving money around the house assuming it wouldn't be spent by your other half
b) you're wife is crazy for just spending your wad without letting you know
c) the guy who sold and didn't count it is crazy for doing what he did

Answer - all of the above, you're all crazy.

Crazy old world jester

And yes, if you now know you gave him £100 less, you've done the right thing to just pay up.

If you told him to jog on, karma will come get you (and it'll probably be attached to a brick coming through your window at 3am).

eta, damn me for not quoting the OP and his crazy post!!
