Someone sells you a vehicle, they get home and moneys short?
Discussion
This has been a really odd week.Sold a motorcycle two weeks ago, still had the 1500 cash in the house for tge sale.Bought two scooters today, first one 800 cash,no problems,i know theres 700 left.Second scooter for the misses just happens to be 700 quid.I give the rolled up leftover remainder of the 1500 to the guy and he buggers off without counting it.
So,a few hours goes by and the misses gets an irrate call from the guy who sold me the second bike, his money was 100 quid short!!I said ut couldn't be,war of words ensues on the phone.Transpires the misses, instead of just taking my bank card for the weeks shopping, decides to dip into my 1500 quid i had in the house!!So the bundle i assumed had 700 in it in fact had 600!!
Anyway, apart from any seller being naturally annoyed etc if this happened to them,is there any legal,or moral thing that if the seller just goes hey and sods off not bothering to count it,what would happen if i said stuff you,you didn't count it!!:-)
Ofcourse im travelling to give him the £100 tomorrow but it just made me think!

Good karma to do the right thing. You two agreed a sale at £700, you gave him £600, if you didn't give him the rest and you fess up that you know you agreed to £700 but knowingly only gave him £600 then I would image it'd be quite easy for him to secure the money through the court.
However, if you were adamant that you gave him the correct amount, imagine the seller would just have to chalk it up to experience. Balance of probabilities, seller did not count the money at the time, imagine the court might side with the buyer!

How?I imagine it would go something like:
Judge to seller: How much was the bike?
Seller: £700
Judge to buyer: how much money did you give the seller?
Buyer: £700
Judge to seller: did you count the money at point of sale?
Seller: No
Judge to both: Case closed
No proof, one word against another. All hypothetical, of course, depending on whether the buyer wanted to be a bit of a t
t about it. Bloke gave me a bag of cash (literally, £20's in a tesco bag) for a £12,000 Mini.
I counted it three times, before giving him back the extra £100 that was in the bag.
thought I was going mad.
Then I took the bag to the bank, totally scared that it was 'drug money' and they'd call the police.

Always counted the cash out with the other party when buying/selling cars. To this date I've never been in the situation where someone has tried to short change me, just lucky I guess? Regardless, common sense says you should always do the count with both parties present before handing over!
He should really have counted the money! I wouldn't believe someone I didn't know who shoved a pile of notes in my hand that they were honest/could count! Serves him right if he doesn't get the full amount.
Well done for taking him the extra, although you should really make the Mrs make the effort to take it and apologise!
I'm sure she'd agree that it was her fault and happily do it. Hmm, well maybe not!
