How do I remove a DV from a focus st? What do I remove and what do I need to check?

Ta!

At a minimum blank off where the valve has been added and either remove or plug the vacuum pipe.

You can buy blanking plugs for this purpose.

If you can I'd return to OE, if a pipe has been cut to fit the T piece to add the valve buy a new hose to replace the cut one.

OK, thanks for the quick response smile There is a narrow pipe from under the cam cover that "T's" to the DV, then the DV has a wider pipe connecting to the engine underneath - what do I do with that (vacuum pipe?)?

why do you want to remove it ?

is it a real noise version and you want a quiet version ?

If you're prepared to shorten the turbos life span (not direct damage, ish!) then get it pigeon'd smile

Essentially removing the wastegate itself and with an induction kit fitted creates turbo chatter as opposed to your standard 'ptshh'

Not risky but does shorten the lifespan of the turbo.

Wastegate and dump valve are two very different things!

Never heard it referred to as pigeon'd before.

Only really seen it on SXOC or SX related sites. with the T28 and a good induction kit it does make a pigeon-y-ish noise.

As I said though, it's not for some people and it has reprocussions.

Does the Focus ST not use an Air mass meter? If so, you cannot simply just 'remove' the recirculation valve. Or did the previous owner ditch the proper recirc valve in favour a pshhhhht chav special? If so, bin it immediately and put it back to standard!

If it is air massed, then every time you change gear, metered air is being dumped off and the motor goes schitt rich.

I need to check the recirc valve hasn't been removed, then remove the DV. I don't know what is bunged off or what pipes need replacing

Pretty sure a chavvy valve is run in tandem with the OEM recirc valve on these. The symposer (thing that channels engine noise into the car) is removed with some types of dump valve but kept with others.

Check the black pipe is attached to a black box at the front of the engine. If it isn't you need to buy a new symposer. If it is, it's just a case of buying the OEM hose to replace the one which came with dump valve and putting a straight connector into the vacuum hose to replace the t-connector to the dump valve.

Hope that helps
