Help and advice needed, insurance experts
Discussion
Hi
After a bit of advice. Have booked an expensive ski holiday with a friend leaving on 12/01/13 we are sharing a twin room.
He has just phoned me to say that he has suffered an injury which means he cannot even drive his car to the airport, let alone ski.
As it was such an expensive holiday he will be claiming on his travel insurance but I still want to go ! But I'm guessing that he will need some sort of documentation from the tour operator that he has cancelled his part of the holiday ?
If he does that I have been informed by the tour operator that I will be charged under occupancy to the tune of around £1000.
Anybody have any clever ideas because I don't !

Its going to be one or the other not both. If he claims on insurance the tour operator isn't going to be out of pocket as they are not refunding anything (and thus have no grounds to charge under occupancy). If the tour operator pays out it won't go to insurance. If he does that I have been informed by the tour operator that I will be charged under occupancy to the tune of around £1000.

Am confused by your reply, why would the TO pay out ?
Wouldn't my friend need evidence of cancellation from the TO to support his insurance claim ?
Thx
Not necessarily. Generally insurance polices require the insured to minimise their losses, so if a late cancellation results in a 100% loss of the money paid for the holiday there shouldn't be any need to cancel.Wouldn't my friend need evidence of cancellation from the TO to support his insurance claim ?
Thx
