Looking for a few ideas for a long weekend in Europe somewhere in March (I like to think of it as payment for being allowed to go skiing and to Le Mans, and also handilly get mega aniversary points) with the OH.

Was thinking Rome, but it looks like it might be a wee bit on the chilly side. Any other suggestions? Pretty open, anything with a few things to see, good places to eat and a decent hotel really.

Flying or driving?

Apart from the standard offerings I could recommend:
- Cologne
- Maastricht
- Verona
- Annecy

Probably flying. We are up in Aberdeen, so short of somewhere in Scotland (which we are already doing at New Year) it is pretty limited as far as driving goes.

Monaco. It'll be lovely and warm, good hotels and restaurants, plenty to see and do.

Why would you research Monaco? It's all within walking distance and enough to get bored (or broke;)) after a few hours... Btw, if it's chilly in Rome in March it will be more so in Monaco, but still better than some Northern European suggestions above smile

I disagree ref the weather reference. I was in Monaco this weekend gone, bit wet Friday evening when we arrived then warm and sunny for the rest of the weekend. It has a very mild climate, with often quite different weather than other parts of Europe for some reason - it isn't going to be warm enough to sunbathe, but it should be T shirt weather in the day. We also went in Feb 2011 and had lovely weather - friends who go there often do so because of the likelihood of it being nice.

We stay here http://www.portpalace.net which overlooks Port Hercule and La Condamine. We usually use Kirker Holidays to book - to give you an idea we had three nights B&B, BA flights from LHR, helicopter transfers both ways between Nice and Monaco - all for just over £500 each. Make sure you upgrade from a std room though - ask for a room ideally on the 3rd floor - that way you see over the trees outside, and get a fantastic view of the harbour.

If you want any more info drop me a pm smile
