Just wanted to share an unexpected and pleasant discovery, having spent countless of hours looking for a Camaro or a mustang convertible for hire, for my upcoming trip to USA.
As you are all probably aware it's a PITA trying to get a quote online for such a thing, even if you try the hertz or avis adrenalise range, provide your pickup and drop off points and dates, you are then taken to a quote page with every type of car listed apart from the camaro/mustang/challenger that you were looking for!

You are then forced to go to less known and local car rental pages, that either charge something like £700 per week or do not allow a different drop off point.

The solution? I called the BA executive line to book a flight and they asked if I'd like anyting else so I gave the car rental request a shot. The lady on the other end of the line not only provided me with a quote, but also phoned Avis and called me back with the answer and reserved without pre-payment or penalties for cancellation either a Mustang or Camaro convertible (with preference being noted down as Camaro) for £359!!!

I say again: A Chevrolet Camaro Convertible for 7days, 2 drivers, unlimited mileage, no accident excess and teh drop off point being different from pickup for £359!!!

This was completely unexpected and a pleasant surprise! (and I get BA miles for it smile)

Hopefully this will help others in the same situation, who have already read the less than positive 3 year old forum posts on PH and tripadvisor and got nowhere.

Is that a confirmed Camaro convertible? and not just a 'we'd like a Camaro', but will get 'Mustang or similar'! and the V6 i assume? Seems like a normal rate if so.

It's a shame Hertz don't allow the Adrenaline collection to be dropped off in other locations. I think i lucked out with my SFO > LAX Adrenaline collection rental last year!

Many of them seem to have the Camaro but don't list it. Virgin use Alamo and on the site there is only the Mustang Convertible. Get there and they have the V6 Mustang and Camaro Hard tops and Convertibles as well as V8 Mustangs Camaro's and Challenger's. Thankfully it's cheaper to upgrade there as well.

Currently only Hertz & Avis have the Camaro SS, all other rental companies have the LT which is a V6 and only Hertz have the SS convertible

Are you sure? I've rented Camaros and a Corvette at LAX and dropped of at Vegas. Also, every year for the past 5+ years I've picked up something from the Adrenaline collection (Shelby Mustang, Camaros, Challenger and Corvettes) from one of the Hertz offices in hotels on the Strip (drink too much on the plane getting to Vegas to drive at the airport) and always dropped it off at MacCarron. Web site still treats hotel on the Strip to MacCarron as a one-way rental.

The 'adrenaline collection' only started last year... Try it on the Hertz website, it always fails to let you selected anything fun if you want to drop off in different locations. This may of course be different if you contact them directly, or have a higher status with them.

I tried to book something from the adrenaline collection - they won't allow you to drop it off over a state line, but they didn't tell me why. Am assuming that you could drive from SF to Vegas, but would have to drive back to SF for the drop off.

It may not have been called the Adrenaline Collection, but you could always get decent cars from Hertz. I am Hertz Gold, but I don't think that brings any benefits in booking.

But without logging in to the Hertz site I just checked a one-way booking in the US and Adrenaline Collection cars are showing up. Maybe it depends how you do it?

If you select one-way on the web site then the Adrenaline Collection category is missing. But if you choose 'show me all' in the car type drop-down, then on the list of cars page choose the 'show all' link then you get the Adrenaline Colelction cars in the list. Simples.

Most show up with 'select for quote' but that then just drops through and gives you a price. I just put in random dates for April LAX to SFO and I'm seeing Camaro SS, Camaro SS Convertable, Dodge Challenger and a Mustang GT. Admittedly the Corvette is showing unavailable but I just put in one set of dates and one from/to location and it all came up as I'd expected. I presume folks are using hertz.com and not hertz.co.uk? Don't know if there is a difference but I always use hertz.com and have always been able to get V8s on one-way rentals.

Just a tip, with the Hertz website, try booking through the Irish site, in Euros. I saved about 35%, with no problems at collection.

I was ready to tell them I booked it when I was working in Ireland though.

Yes, they come up... but when you select them it says:
'Sorry, we couldn't find any rate that meets your criteria. This might be caused by a request for an offer that isn't available for the location, time and vehicle chosen. If you are attempting to redeem an offer, please check the terms and conditions and modify your request. [DE138]'

Maybe it's just for me that it does that...

I stand corrected. Must be a new limitation then? This summer I had a Corvette picked from the Cosmopolitan on the Strip return to LAS. Last summer we had a Camaro from Caesars to LAS. Before that it was a Challenger from Caesars to LAS. Before that it was a Camaro from LAX to LAS. Before that another Corvette from Caesars to LAS. Before that a Shelby Mustang on the same route, and another Mustang LAX to SFO before that...excluding all the round-trip rentals wink

Maybe it an off season thing, or maybe when I've booked for real I've logged in. Anyway - you are correct in that it doesn't now seem to allow one way rentals on the web site frown

They said it'd be either be the camaro or the mustang (no sebring mentioned) and that she specifically requested the camaro for me.
