I've got my throttle bodies off to change my alternator and have noticed that the intake heat barriers don't really line up well with the intake ports on the heads or the T.bodies.

Has anyone reshaped theirs to help the intake flow into the heads? If so did it make any difference performance or economy wise?

Yep, I've smoothed out all of the inside of my 4.5 throttle bodies as it is shocking from the factory.

You'll never notice any improvement from those small mods, you'd be talking 2-3hp maximum I would have thought. You'd have to have a pretty sensitive ass to feel that for the few seconds you'd experience it while driving. wink

I agree
Mines being having a full rebuild and every thing is being polish and smoothed there's no way one or to little things on there own will make any diffrance but put a lot of those little things together and you will make a sizeable diffrance

Are you talking about reshaping the heat barrier? i thought there were 'o' rings in these so probably not.

Yeah there are two Orings either side of the heat barrier. Although when I replaced mine there is a small amount of material that could be removed before getting into the area of the Orings.

Mine were not even tight to the head which I think allowed a certain amount of leak by which I found when setting my throttles up, but sorted that out.

Yeah I wasn't expecting any great improvements but as they say every little helps. And yes for a car thats performance based they are a shocking fit.
I might shave mine back to the T.boddies as thats easy but not fuss to much with the head side as don't want to risk dropping anything in the heads.

They are about 5mm think with 'O' rings on either side.
