The above phrase was added to an email in which I was told I was unsuccessful in an application. I asked for any feedback they could offer to help me out with future applications..

What would you normally expect as 'feedback'?

Probably nothing on your performance; so would expect only something around the competencies they were looking for against what you were missing.
