Picked this message up on one of my other groups - What does this group think she should do?

quote
A colleague (and ex-police officer) was tearing her hair out this afternoon as a result of her daughter receiving a FPN whilst visiting her boyfriend in Scotland. It transpires that it was actually the boyfriend who was driving but the young lass, who has only had a licence for a month, does not want to 'grass' him up. Why not? Well, said boyfriend has just had his licence returned after a 2 year ban for speeding and still has points on his licence. From what was said, I think the points for this offence would lose him his licence again and I also think that he is putting pressure on the lass to take the blame. Her mum has pointed out the various drawbacks of taking the rap regarding insurance etc and was going to try to get her to see sense tonight!

I am correct in thinking that giving incorrect details is in itself an offence?

I'm not an expert, but she might be guilty of 'perverting the course of justice' which is a VERY serious offence. If the lad loses his license (again) he has only got himself to blame.

Steer well clear.

Two year ban sounds a bit serious.

To get caught speeding after onlyj ust getting your licence back sounds a bit dull.

Grass him up.

Do they not know someone else who can take the blame?

Like a no longer driving old relation. I don't even think they need a license!

I would say the chances of getting caught would be miniscule as the Scamera Prats only care about getting their hands on some more dollars.

They won't investigate, it's only about the £60

Mate of mine drove around with a theoretical 18 points for years. Just used to sell them to people in his firm. No-one ever bothered to check. He has short dark hair and is a bloke! yet he even sold some to a girl with long blonde hair!!

I can kind of confirm this.

When I got caught between an offense and conviction problem which was a bit tricky and no one knew the answer to, I phoned the Bicster Scameraship and they said "Just send the license in and we will give you an FPN. We dont worry about offense and conviction stuff here...." - although I was relieved it still reeks of "We would rather have your money sir..."

Sounds a bit suspect, 2 year driving ban (unlikely for speed, very likely for been massively over the limit). Licence back with points on, I thought it reset to zero (maybe not with a DD ban though?) Sounds like the prat doesn't want points incase he gets more or it shoves his insurance up.

Another problem with the scamera ships, there now exists a whole new black market economy in people buying and selling points. Bloody great eh!

If he was that worried about his licence, why was he schpeeding???

Did he get his licence out of a crisp packet? or did he actually have a valid licence??
