Mr2 Rev 4 - My third one
Discussion
There is something about these cars, I just love them, and they put a huge smile on my face. Every time I sell one I start to regret it.
I sold my Rev 4 silver black MR2 in august simply due to the fact that I was only doing about 1000 miles a year and it felt bad just leaving it parked up, however since then regretted it. The new owner was very very happy and has sent me various pics of it. It was also the first time I have ever sold a car to someone from outside of the UK.
In the back of my mind I wanted to get another one, I look on auto trader every now and again but never very proactively, and never called about any, until last night.
Got in from work, started to browse online at around 7.30, spotted a blue MR2 Rev 4, thought it looked good, the next thing I know it’s about 8.30pm and I am knocking on the guy’s door. Had a look around it, took it for a spin, smiled, handed him some cash, drove it home and continued to smile. Back home about 10pm, not bad for a quite evening.
It great being an MR2 owner again! A few pics from the advert:

Needs a few little jobs, feels a bit flat till 3k revs, im not sure if I have just forgotten what my old one was like and have got used to driving a diesel for a few months, or whether this has less power then my old one.

Its not a particularly torquey engine low down (2.0L 16V engine with ~87bhp/litre from the early 90's, with no variable 'stuff') so needs a bit of revs to waken up. Still capable of a good turn of speed though!I think it looks great on the original wheels, not a huge fan of the later wheels, think they looked a bit small on the mk2 but not too bad on the mk3.
It was last services at 95k and its now fine 96k but going to have a look at the plugs and air filter at the weekend just to check they have actually been done. If either are dirty then I will give it a service myself. ( my old bmw was serviced by a main dealer and they never bothered changing the air filter but charges for it)
The brakes are feeling a little weak so will change them, has a look earlier and the pads look to have about 5mm of meat on them so I would guess about 70% worn. The discs look ok, slight lip on the edge but in 2 minds as to whether to leave them and only do the pads, or do both. Any recommendations on pads for the front or just stick with standards ones from motor parts direct/ euro car parts.
Drove to work today and it deffo feels flat almost like its holding back, once you start getting above 4k feels a bit livelier, pretty sure my old one was a bit more responsive, are all the 96 p reg cars 168 bhp?

I have Carbotech pads on mine, and they are bananas, easily the most powerful brakes i've had on any car.
If your looking at keeping the car for a while or are going to drive it hard/on track, then I'd reccomend.
They are pretty expensive, and also they eat discs, the pads will outlast many sets of discs, and your wheels will be filthy, but they really are very, very strong - next level up from EBC, Ferodo and the usual cheap-ish upgrade stuff.
I would probably have never bought them myself but I'm very glad the previous owner did, there brill, Highly Reccomended (but you'll need to do front and rear, the difference is such that it wouldnt be safe to run so different brakes front and back).
As for feeling a bit flat low down - mines like that too. I havent driven an early one, but theres quite a difference in feel of the engine before and after the intake runners swtich over, but I guess this is the reason the cars get comparatively very good economy when cruising.
Its the price you pay I guess. If there is a problem, then I understand the ignition side of things is the place to start as dizzys, leads, plugs etc often get a bit neglected.
I think the main difference between early and late engines is the additon of EGR - easily spot the control valve and little feeding pipe at the top of the engine above the exhaust manifold.

I've just bought a rev. 4 in the same colour, thought I'd share as it's a very rare one! Since taking this photo I've put some standard wheels on it.

Lovely looking motor, has the aerial been changed?
Never had a T bar
Thanks. Yes the arial has been replaced at some point it its life. Never had any type of convertible before but it is nice having the roof off and hearing the engine right behind you when on a hoon...like the one I've just got back from Never had a T bar

That colour (code 8K9) was exclusive to the Rev 4. Mine is a turbo.
The wheels in the pic came off my other car. It's not the best colour combination but I needed a decent staggered set for the event. Different ones on it now.
