Decent bike up to around 500?

Looking probably for a hybrid or hardtail,but unsure as to decent makes etc theres so much choice,il be doing a bit of road work and odd green lane or two.Dont mind buying a decent used one in fact id probably prefer a better quality second hand example.

problem with used ones is the good ones tend to go quickly so unless you know what you want you cant really spend too much time deciding if its for you.

for £500, you can find some bargains so there is no need to go used just to get something decent and there is always the risk parts are close to wearing out, forks need a service etc.

anyway, if you can get the right size, how about one of these?

Nothing of the current years bikes comes close for the money, so if you can get over the lack of brand name on the frame then this is in my opinion the bike to buy. Service from Decathlon is pretty good and the lads seem to know their way around a bike.
