XJ6 Carb conversion
Discussion
Advice needed please....
The kit I am looking at recommends an XJ6 Series 2 as the donor, as these were the last 4.2s with carburettors. However, there are many more Series 3 4.2 EFIs about to choose from. Given that I intend to change the carb set up to Webers anyway even if I get a Series 2, does anyone know of any other reason why I can't simply take the complete EFI / ECU set up off of a Series 3 and install the Webers? I know that the fuel pump is different and will need to be changed, and I'll obviously have to rejig the ignition set up but from what I can tell the head is the same as a Series 2, just with bigger inlet valves - and that seems to me as if it would be beneficial anyway.
What am I missing? Did they change the cam profile to suit the EFI? If so I'll need to change them too.
It could be that the kit manufacturer is suggesting a Series 2 to save the builder doing all this extra work, but I will be rebuilding the engine anyway.

The kit I am looking at is a replica XKSS. Although the kit is only going to be a "look a like" (being a GRP shell over a tube-frame chassis with IRS etc.), one of the original's most obvious features under the bonnet is a line abreast of fire-breathing Webers. Anything else would be too far away from the original to achieve that "second glance" effect I'm after.
