Anyone out there found a solution to this problem?

I've just had a refurbished fuel pump fitted, as the car cut out a while ago, and wouldn't start again. It now starts, and does so perfectly from a cold start, but then doesn't idle very smoothly.

However I get a problem when starting from warm/hot. It still turns over, but takes considerably longer to "catch", then I have the same idling problem, and a lot of pale/white smoke. When driven, it has so much less power than before, (i had removed the EGR valve to cure the black smoke problem)

Prior to it packing up, it always started first turn of the key, and had plenty of oomph.

Can anyone, please help, it's sending me nuts

Might be that the pump timing hasn't been set correctly.

Did you get a new fuel filter at the same time?

Thanks tricky.
New fuel filter being fitted on Monday. I believe that you need to remove the pump to adjust the timing, is that right?

Poor starting

Either poor compression or lack of fuel

It starts fine from cold so can't see it being fuelling related

Which leaves low compression

White smoke

No such thing as white smoke however steam looks very similar

Is it using any water?

I'd be thinking a head gasket on its way out

Thanks x type. I found that forum, and got some good pointers regarding fuel pump timing. Seems to be a known issue.

Hi thin, pale/white smoke. Definitely not steam, not using water ( fortunately )
Fitting fuel filter on Monday, and then getting the timing checked.
Fingers crossed it gets sorted soon

It sounds like timing, I had a similar problem when I did the timing belt on a Discovery. It ran lumpy and chucked out whits smoke on tickover, I'd timed it one tooth out on the belt. It could also be a dodgy pump.

Timing has now been corrected, it was out one tooth, new fuel filter fitted and leaned the tank filter.
Much better now, bu still not perfect. It's possible soe air is getting in the ful line... More cheks to be done.
