Rotting on the forecourt

I have been scanning the online classifieds on a daily basis for the last 6 months hoping to find the right Chimaera to replace my old one.

There must be at least 5 Chims I can think of that have remained unsold for that entire period - all overpriced dealer examples.

It makes me wonder what they are hoping to achieve - can they really be waiting for some berk to walk in who hasn't done their homework? Wouldn't it be better to get some turnover going and perhaps attract new TVR buyers to the fold who are too scared to buy private?

Shh... if the Maindealers all dropped their 2nd hand prices then the private market would side at the same time. Ultimately there will always be some "berks" who wouldn't dream of buying private because of the risk, and still pay the premium of the dealership support in buying off the forecourt.

Chances are they are not actually owned by the dealership and the price is dictated by the owner.

I've seen this with some North London Porsche dealers where they effectively charge storage and slap a price tag determined by the owner on the wagon.

Owners are often unealistic but as long as they pay storage then the forcourt isn't too worried.

I've often thought this too.

One dealer in particular has had an example on sale for I would think must be close on 1 year.

Surely you would have thought they'd have the savvy to drop the price and get rid of it ?

Why do they do this ?
