Can anyone suggest a better car for say circa £4K. Key requirements being fairly brisk, >40MPG and <10years old:

The one I have in mind has the following spec:
-Light weight 1090kg
-Combined 41mpg
-0-100kph in 6.7sec
-177bhp
-137mph top speed
-Built 2006
-Very reliable and and great handling.

Ok fire away guyssmile

Mg Zr 160 mk2 cost £1600 hehe

Key requirements being fairly brisk, >40MPG and <10years old:

The one I have in mind has the following spec:
-Light weight 1090kg - 1090kg
-Combined 41mpg - 37mpg
-0-100kph in 6.7sec - 7.4
-177bhp - 157
-137mph top speed - 137mph
-Built 2006 - 2004
-Very reliable and and great handling. - Later h/g and not bad.

What car are you talking about? I initially thought Clio 182 but your figures don't add up.

Edit: Just re-read your OP, this car doesn't exsist does it? I almost had a brain fart trying to work out which car it was...

What is the car you have in mind with them figures.

Something that I think hits most of them but around mid 30's MPG if driven carefully is a BMMW 330CI

It certainly does exist, not in great numbers mind, circa 215 in the UK and around 14 currently for sale. I don't want to give the game away just yet as I'm hoping the collective might of the PH massive, have a suggestion or two which may match/beat my offering

Well done that manthumbup Knew it wouldn't take long for someone to work it out. Now onto the challenge; is there anything, fitting the criteria above that comes close, or in the desired case, is better???

When did 1090kg become "light"?

Similar stats: Mitsubish Colt 1.5 turbo, Given they're the same car iirc.

There's a few other cars out there that can do pretty good mpg with a bigger engine and not that much more weight.

Be very very sure what you're getting yourself into. My mate has one and has dropped so much into it, he can't afford to get rid now, he needs to keep it running and use it.
It's also hideous on fuel, mid to high 20s in the real world from it.

Not a bad little car when it's running nice, but they can have a load of issues and not be 'cheap'.

Some of the parts are eye watering.

Well it is around 230kg lighter than my 911 and around 400-600kg lighter than most modern cars. Would you be so kind as to list a few of the cars you claim offer similar credentials.

You know, I'm not sure it does.
The data I have for the Smart Brabus ForFour is as follows:

Unlaiden weight: 1090kg (just pointing out this isn't the EU standard, which involves fuel and an occupant)
Power: 177ps , but *MUST* run on at LEAST 98RON.
0-100km/h: 7.6s
Fuel Economy: 34.6mpg (6.8 l/100km combined)

Now, you can disagree if you like but I got my figures from the owners' manual.
Technical data starts on page 248 - http://www.forfour.co.uk/documents/manuals/uk-forf...
