M62 managed motorways construction, the bosses respond
Discussion
After lots of critism from members of the public, the Highways Agency has made a youtube video that is supposed to answer the questions. You'll find it as a link in this story.

It needs 4 lanes east and west between the M1 to M60..
The managed motorway won't make the slightest difference.
Also need to make the '66 2 lane DC all the way..
Make 2 lane DC's between M65 and Ripon A61.. And between M57 and around Chesterfield.
Yes it will cost a small fortune but only then will we see some improvement.

Living in Leeds and commuting to and from Bradford during the week, as well as using the M62 almost daily, it's a joke. We have someone in the office who commutes across the A roads from Burnley every day. If the M62 snarls up, which it seems to 2-3 days per week at the moment, his 45 minute drive takes 2.5 hours. My 5 mile drive from central Bradford suddenly takes an hour instead of 15 minutes.
I would rather blame the lack of any other decent Pennine crossings than the M62 roadworks, as the snarl ups are down to oafs who can't negotiate them, rather than then roadworks themselves.

I live near Burnley. Last week I was working in Penrith; 90 odd miles 1.5 hrs. Leeds, about 30 miles = 2.5 hrs, I'd stick with the Northern bit of the M6 any day.7mike said:

I used to live 15 miles from Penrith and commute in every day. It took me 15 minutes to do 15 miles. I used to get pissed off if the traffic lights on the Jcn 40 roundabout didn't go for me!10 Pence Short said:

The town was busier than I thought it would be, not having needed to go into Penrith much previously. But compared with the joys of getting around most of West Yorkshire it was heavenly.philmots said:

and ruin some of my best overtaking practice opportunities (especially all those bloody slow supermarket lorries
).Just got home from Leeds and Ikea and the matrix sign said "Roadworks remain for safety reasons" or something similar. My reaction was that the wording is a load of b
ks, firstly the roadworks aren't remaining, there is no work happening and unlikely to be any for two weeks I suspect. Secondly, how does it affect safety? I can't see a difference between how the road is at the moment to almost any other derestricted section of motorway in the UK. I am pretty sure the speed limits and cones remain because the contractors couldn't be arsed to move them and leaving the cameras on should net a few quid for the coffers over Christmas.
Made worse by the fact that between junctions 28 and 30 it looks like the work is finished, the gantrys have the new speed cameras on, the road has the markings for the cameras so the surface must be done. No doubt the restrictions will remain until they finish the other 20 odd miles over the next 18 months.

It's been like that for years and is to help the ton of traffic coming down the slip ramp from the M1 merge easier. And I have to say it works well from both directions.
Think you're getting confused, 27 is the turn off for the m621, junction 29 is where m1 crosses
