I have a small lump on the underside of my foot about an inch behind my two smallest toes.
Its not very pronounced but has been there a while, sometimes it doesn't hurt at all, but sometimes like today it is very painful and hurts when I put pressure on it.

What can it be ? Why does it only hurt occasionally ?

what sort of lump is it?
if its hard and crusty in the skin it might be a wart, if its deeper than that and generally softish, it could be one of a few things - such as bursitis, fibroma etc.
Have a chat with your GP if its the first, you might need some simple treatment, if its the other then you might need an ultrasound scan to rule some things out

Well, its sort of a hard lump under the skin, not crusty, red, sore or anything. About the size of a 5 pence, sticks out about 1-2mm, not normally painful, in fact hardly ever, just hurts without any notice like it did this morning
