Best and worst throttle response
Discussion
We all love instant throttle response, just blip the pedal, instant revs.
But whats the best and worst you've experienced?
Best for me I think was my old Nova 1.3sr that had been fettled. It would also rev off the clock.
Worst, it was a Megane of some sort, diesel probably. Pedal down.....wait....

Worst = Mercedes C200 CGI Auto. Without a doubt, Mercedes auto boxes are just plain dangerous.
I had a '97 C180 auto and could recite the alphabet backwards before the engine would wake up. I'm looking at SL type things of the same era at the moment and wondering if the boxes are the same.My old TDCi Focus was a bit slow, but nothing compared to the Chrysler 200c 2.4 auto I drove in the states earlier this year. Although as bad as the throttle response was, it was nothing compared to the gearbox. That thing was shocking.
My first car - a Pug 106 1.1 was pretty sharp and my MX5 is now. Both have cable throttles.

Either the E34 M5 3.8 (S38) or E36 M3 Evo's/early Z3 Ms 3.2 litre sixes (S50) engines would be contenders for most responsive throttle/drivelines.
Worst - the Mercedes petrol V6 and autobox combination in the first generation C-Class and CLK, the supercharged 2.3 four pot in the SLK was also dire. An E320 diesel of similar vintage with the straight six engine was noticeably better, that's how poor I found it.

Really? Many people have owned automatic Mercedes and not been killed over the years. Torque converter autos will always have a momentary lag but you just compensate for it by pushing the go pedal fractionally before you actually want to go. They might not be ideal for lapping the ring or heroically power sliding about the place but that is slightly missing the point of automatic luxobarges.Best - not sure. Probably a monaro.
Worst - easily, and by quite some way - a turbodiesel espace. It took about 3s to react to pedal input on the autoroute, meaning it was actually quite challenging keeping it on 130km/h. I got the hang of it after about 7 hours of night driving (bloody ski trip with the ex's framily!)

Worst, ex bosses Pug 607, a 2 second delay between pressing pedal and any power.
2 real seconds, not 2 exaggerating for the internet seconds.
And one time the pedal stuck down, auto box, was fun
best for instant power.. pal's TR8, press pedal and instant 220bhp, not very linear though!
best best, my old tuned Mk2 Cavalier, only 100bhp but the pedal was so good and the power came in nicely.
