Would an Ipod-alike do ?

I have a rather large data file that I need to back up on a weekly ( ideally daily but cant be arsed )basis. Its about 500 MB but will grow to 1 gb or more and I was wondering if you can use an Ipod or similar for this purpose. I was going to buy one of those data sticks but the prices for even the 512mb ones are over £100 and at £220 ish for 20gb the Ipod looks a better bet and I get the bonus of MP3 player.. Any thoughts ?

1) Yes you can.

2) Shop around for sticks, I've seen 1Gb for £50 odd recently somewhere...

Thanks for that Id pretty much decided that if an Ipod was up to the job Id get one.. sort of justifies the expense if its gonna be half usefull and I choose not to read the second half of the reply.

I thought firewire was quicker than USB 2.0 as well, but I could be wrong.

You could get a portable 40gb Firewire 800 drive & enclosure for half the price of the iPod though!

Use the money saved to get a refurbed iPod for £120 (10gb)!
