Hi all

I usually only post on the Sag, T350 etc forum, but on this occasion I thought the least I could do was to share my 1st experience with Mat Smith Sports Cars with you all. I have now owned TVR's for a few years and know most dealers and specialist around the country, and over the years I have dealt with some companies that I would never take my car back to and others who I was very pleased with.

I recently heard many great things about Mat Smith through some very close TVR friends and decided to trust him with my Sag. After a brief but detailed chat with Mat, and a few weeks later we agreed to carry out a full 12k service like I have done yearly irelevant of the millage done.

Cutting the long story short I can honestly state that for the very 1 st time I can honestly say that I have noticed a difference after a full 12k service. What I mean is, after speaking to a number of speed six owners we all ask ourselves how many of us actually get a wow!!!! factor following a 12k service and the fact remains that most of us don't notice a huge difference following a 12k service if any at all and a S--T load of money lighter. Now one could argue that we dont do enough millage on our cars to notice the improvements between services or one could say that the garages are doing such a great job on the 1st few services that it is not possible to feel any bebefits from any following services!

Well for the 1st time ever as a TVR owner I drove the SAG back from Norfolk experiencing a mixture of road surfaces and was thrilled with the way the car felt, handled and the exelent throtle response. For the 1st time ever a little voice in my head was saying to me, money well spent Chris and a top job to the man who last worked on my car. Other than the 12k service Mat spent some time on playing around with my suspension settings, geo set up and corner weighing etc. The car feels like a completely new car, I am so pleased.

The man is responsible is called Mat Smith @ Mat Smith Sports Cars. I dont owe Mat nothing neither are we best mates all of a sudden, however I always have time for individuals who are setting up in business and have time for their customers, bags of enthusiasm for the mark and money is not top of the agenda. I know that money pays the bills and enthusiasm doesn't, however an individual who allocates his customers time, enthusiasm and as close to perfection as possible as well as flexibility will always win my business which in turn pays the bills.

So yes enthusiasm does pay the bills and I hope Mat sticks to his plans in remaining a small customer focus based company offering a great service.

I would also like to take this opportunity in thanking all previous garages that have worked on my SAG and looked after her. Thanking you all for all your advice and support over the years.

But more up to date: Thanking Mat Smith
clapclap

I can't echo your sentiments enough, great chap, loves his work, value for money, good advice, which is why after a year of owning a TVR, he will always service my car smile Prepare to be there a while, he will chat to you for hours tongue out MOT Centre, Tire Place and Bodyshop specialising in classic cars all in same location, stones throw away, extra benefit.

Geo Geo and Geo, not Ronnie James Dio
It amazes me every time that people dont get the car set up before anything else!
a 1600 mk1 escort is quick with good shocks, brakes and geo set up.
Even if your car doesnt need servicing the best thing you can do to any car is get the suspension set up especially with a TVR - you WILL notice the difference and enjoy the drive more

Funny you mention that Steve, Mat spoke so much I could't get a word in edgeways and trust me I can talk. Overall I was so pleasantly suprised and pleased and superb value for money.

I wish him all the success with his business. Already looking forward to carrying out a few more tweaks on my next visit!!!!!

Chris - I saw your Sag at Mats a couple of weeks ago when I popped by for a chat and it looked great, I know Mat was enjoying playing about with his corner scales smile
To echo your thoughts, I've been using Mat now for the last 8 years, first at Sebring and now he's set up on his own in Downham Market - a venture he knows I wish him every success with. His attention to detail is fastidious and I know he'll never try and rip me off or carry out unnecessary work. I count him as a personal friend like a few other names on this thread (Hi Nigel wavey) so realise my recommendation may be a little biased but I will only ever take my car to Mat for work to be done because I know it will be carried out to the highest possible standards.
Yes he can talk for England but IMHO thats half the joy in going to see him, thoroughly decent chap, willing to spend the time listening to what his customers want and more importantly, willing to tell you if he thinks you don't need to spend the money!

Hi , I was there chatting to Mat when the OP's car turned up on the truck ( not because it was broken down , just the way it was being delivered I think ). The burgar van at the top of the road does great bacon rolls to go with Mat's coffee too.

Happy christmas all.

OK seems to be a good one to check out. What does he charge for the pick up and return of the car. I live a fair way from his business so it would make more sense for me to get the car picked up. Is there a web site for him?
Cheers
