981 PCM iPod/iPhone 5 music control...any good??
Discussion
Hello Chaps,
So, whats the latest PCM like?
I need to spec my 981 Cayman pretty sharpish. I don't need or use the Sat Nav, but I like control of my music from the head unit. As the standard stereo only offers a bloody Aux jack, I need to spend £2,000 for a iPod dock!!! Cheers, Porsche...
Is it any good? How much control do you have over the playlists etc...? Does it have a search facility for songs etc.?
Cheers
Frank

Only got my 981 very recently so not played with all the functions but I've found the iPod integration pretty good. You can do a search on album, artist, etc and its all fully controllable from PCM. I believe you can access playlists too but I don't use them and play it all in shuffle mode too. It does not support all of the older generation iPods though so if like me, you have an old one lying around, you'll need to check.
Like I said, just my first impressions.
Another thing is that the latest PCM systems now also come with a hard disk based jukebox that you can load from songs on a USB stick. 5000 track / 40Gb capacity. Nice surprise that was

Further investigation has led to me finding that this PCM system also supports AAC files so instead of having to buy a newer compatible iPod, I can simply copy the files directly from the iTunes library onto a suitable USB stick and plug it straight in. Works just like an iPod but for a fraction of the cost. USB sticks also support album artwork display unlike the old iPhone 3G I'd previously been using.

The most important spec will be sports suspension, (hopefully available like the boxster fixed rate system not pasm) PSE as I really dont want to be crawling around trying to chisel off rusty nuts again! and some tasty big wheels. Feel free to spec what ever else you want! So, whats the latest PCM like?

I dont think my new exhaust system would suit your business needs as it fires up in loud mode and is no way discrete lol

I'll PM you the spec..... think I may go for Black this time....but PSE and Sports sussie will make the car too expensive... I ALWAYS go for the biggest, coolest wheels available!!
It's looking like a March delivery, so we'll have to 'hook up' then, and compare!!
Take care, Bud!
