Hi to all!

It's finally great to be on here as a 1st time TVR owner - I've been reading all the brilliantly useful info on here for the last few months but for some reason never got around to registering!

Need to pick some experienced brains please? My Tuscan has recently had a new clutch fitted and what with all the delays of actually getting the part it sat at the garage waiting to be fixed for about 3 weeks. On getting it back it seems to have developed a habit of cutting out after a stint of giving it a bit of welly! After about 5 minutes of sitting patiently it would start again. It's been back and the air/fuel mix seemed to have been the problem, got that fixed and had the cylinders balanced. Seemed to be fine and then this morning when I started it the idling rev's were so low that unless I kept my foot on the accelorator it cut out! After 3 attempts it was fine and has been all day.

I use this beautiful car as my main one and it has been doing about a 1000 miles a month quite happily. Any suggestions?

welcome !!

had mine about 4 months and luv it.

mine does that at the mo (or was doing it). I figured it was because it's due its service and probably needs the tappets done. I just adjusted the idle speed on the throttle body for the moment and it's reasonably happy again.

So.. could just need some adjustment ?

I'm having problems a bit like yours and not getting anywhere fast with remedies although mine cuts out uder load then wont start again for a while garage are scratching heads after many calls to factory. First thing factory said to check were earth connections though might be a bad earth after gearbox removal/refit.

Is this just a cold start issue?
I believe that the Tuscan ECU doesn't actually have anything to handle a cold start. As part of my warm up process, I keep the revs around 1,400 rpm for the first 30 seconds. It'll tick over fine after that (though perhaps still a little low at 600 rpm) until the engine is warm around 700-800 rpm.

(For those with a higher tick over - mine hasn't got aircon. I seem to recall that a car with aircon would tick over around 900rpm)

A low tickover speed & stalling when cold can also be the valve clearences closing up, I have had this twice now & well before the recomended service interval.

PS Evostick nice colour same as mine

Had exactly the same symptoms-took it to the dealer (TVR centre) while I was away on holiday and they sorted the tuning.Runs better than when I first bought it ( all of 4000 miles and 4 months ago) and it ran well then or so I thought at the time. Its been fine ever since and I have not been gentle. Didn't cost me a penny as it was all under warranty.

Interestingly I had a nice chat with one of the mechanics who dropped me off at the tube station-he said they can need tuning after a while to make them run just right-which might suggest that they need a tune when everything beds in.

Guys

Thanks very much for the feedback, seems to me that with 1000 miles to go until the 24k service that she is just in need of a good tune. Since the non starting episode everything (touch wood!) has been fine.

She's getting the service at the beginning of October so I'll let you know how she runs then.

Thanks

Eve

If you REALLY want it sorting, you could always book it in for a service with somewhere that knows the engines inside & out (literally), like TVR Power...
