Discussion
Anyone had their renewal recently? Just got mine £615 last year this year wait for it £1405 no change in details or circumstances, i must ring them tomorrow for an explanation but this year its not with Royal Sun Alliance for some reason.
Can anyone suggest a good company Liverpool Victoria, Manning or Tesco's etc

Privilege is cheap.
Peart seem good.
I had a bad experience with Royal Sun Alliance.
People at A1 insurance on the South Coast are very helpful.
Or you could try that Toff's insurance Co. that Michael Winner keeps on wittering about.
Reason for TVR insurance hikes recently - Tuscan fatalies I'm sorry to say. Cars with mucho poke and no driver aids going cheap to idiots who are used to an F-Reg 205.

I insured with Direct Line..very reasonable £550 for restricted mileage. Plucked up the courage to
them about the upgrades the former owner put on (best to safe than sorry);
Sports exhaust...is that one that increases bhp or just a replacement (me=gulp) err, not sure I lie, just makes it louder I think
..ok she says, no increase for that (phew goes me, thats the tuff one out the way)
Rear afterburners....purely cosmetic, ok she goes, anything else?
18" Spiders...are they original fit? I stutter and try to convince her that they are newish wheels, but they where an upgrade option when new (another little white lie cant hurt?), so they arent actual original fit...umm, says I, err, they are now, just not then. Ok sir, thankyou for the info,
that'll be another £105.
Silence...pardon? Just for the wheels? Yup she goes, coz they make the car more likely to be nicked (ok, not her actual words) and they increase the payout if damaged etc.
Gave up at that point..still, spose £658 (incl £3 to increase limited mileage by 1000
)isnt too bad
Think I'll leave enquirying about trackday cover for another time.
The annoying thing is, I spoke to the previous owner who said L&V added all the upgrades at no cost! Bugger

IIRC the 18" wheels have always been a factory fit option.
When I first got a quote for a tuscan, it was the same price as the Red Rose. And since I haven't claimed for 30yrs why can't I have 30yrs NCB?

Peart were best for me this year at £405 for a V8S, 7000 miles. This versus about £700 quote from Sunninghill - which represented a 100% hike from last year!
However, did try Chaucer and Mannings who both quoted Cornhill Allianz at about £450.
I am a 'mature driver' no points and no accidents in last three yrs.
There has been a thread in the TVR forum which had a link to a good search engine which came up with the goods for my student son.

I put my ole man down(my dad, that is!) as the policy holder, got 70% NCB as he's of retirement age

Just had the 'I'm ringing to let you know about a couple of mods' conversation with Hill House Hammond (now owned by Norwich Union) only to be told that they're cancelling my policy with 7 days notice
Apparently, their underwriters will not insure the Cerb as the suspension is now height adjustable (Nitrons) and the car can now be lowered. I pointed out that it's not exactly running Land Rover ground clearance as standard but to no avail.
What's really annoying is that NU have incorporated what was a helpful and flexible broker (Cheam) and have immediately diminished the service on offer without a second thought to their customer base
Progress I guess.......

I think that it is also important to check the terms of the cover that you are getting, as well as just the price.
Bear in mind that tvr parts are not off-the-shelf and there are long waiting lists for repairs etc at a lot of the best body places.
Things like courtesy car cover can therefore be vital. I am with Tesco - who quoted me the cheapest price - but with hindsight probably would have gone with Direct Line - second cheapest - as I believe they provide a car until repairs are complete, rather than for just two weeks.
