I thought there needed to be two pipes ! one out the engine and one back .why do the one`s forsale have two connections ?

Pipe off both banks on a V engine, or some engines take a breather from crankcase and another from rocker/cam cover ?

Your right Daz. Doing it the way you describe the engine will still suck the gases out and catch the nasty oil. This will prevent oil seal problems as the crancase will still be at negative pressure as standard.

You can though vent to atmosphere as Chilli has done. I think if venting to atmosphere you are best venting both covers. This will help with potential leaks as there is no induction pulling it out.

So two flame traps connected to the catch tank ,one each side .Eather to a T piece or in to two connections on the catch tank.

Both must vent in to the top of the catch tank and any residue falls to the bottom ..Seen some catch tanks which have a dip pipe one side which would be no good for this application..!

O a standard setup what does the pipe off the flame trap actually do .?

Chillies near side bank must still be relying on that little breather thing ..

So why is the aluminum one better ? looks the same to me ,prefer the look of the carbon one !

I would of launched the hoover hose and fitted something smooth ..

Can`t see the point of insulating the hoover hose then leaving the aluminum air box ..That must absorb some heat ..

just can`t see the point of all this !

It's the inlet size Daz, the ACT CF airbox claggs straight on to the 14CUX (almost). This one has a much bigger diameter inlet, coupled up to larger diameter smooth bore pipe down to the filter (plus motorsport grade insulation and stuff), and bigger necked filter, rated for 360 plus bhp (however they work that out) repositioned to get colder air and a ram effect. This engine needs alot of air, (it sucks like a hollywood porn star) and the standard inlet hose and filter arrangement wasn't doing it. You can fit smooth bore 90 degree elbow and ditch the AFM but if you don't uprate the gubbins down to and including the filter then you're not gonna get all the benefit of the other mods smile

Alledgedly wink

And happy Christmas Eve smile

Thanks Chilli ,hope it works for you .. Happy christmas .. cool

When i had my MG tuned and stuck on the rollers it always made alot more power without the airfilter fitted.

I wonder if there is a larger one on the market to give zero resistance.

Well, i am here.

Chilliman has passed on very well what i explained i have done.

ACT plenum had 75mm inlet to match up to 75mm flexi and filter. This was a restriction proved by the fact that Pipercross do the filter fitted rated at 360bhp whereas the exact same filter with a 75mm neck is rated at just 290bhp. The new collector has a slightly larger volume that the ACT one too

Hose is motorsport grade smoothbore twin skin flexi rated at 300 deg C. Doing in hard tubing would have meant alot of cutting/shutting as there are a few subtle angles required to run close to inner wing and down to front.

I ran the engine with the hose bare and the heat soak on the intake pipe from the collector/cat area was severe as there is less than 50mm clearance with this larger bore hose so i insulated it.

Original filter was placed right close to the top of the rad out of any air flow and the original flexi was having to do at least a 120 deg bend. The distance from the filter to the throttle bodies was very long and with the restriction must have lengthened response.

On the breather, it is the one on the off side that is connected back into the intake where the massive vacuum was just sucking loads of oil vapour back in unnecessarily. This now goes to the prototype catch tank whick has a condensing plate in then a vent to atmosphere. We will see how much this collects and adjust size and add drain/sight pipe if required.

Was not the ideal wether for testing and with the extra air hopefully going in it may be running a little weak up the top end so we await mapping/rolling road figures.

Cheers

Eddy

Im running a standard plenum with a 72mm disc and full ACT induction kit ,the airfilter is a K&N ,will this be a restriction ? my car is dynode at 340hp ..

If it is a restriction what are the options .. what about a larger air filter or something like this .

I have one of these
